no cool pics, just painted tiles 11 Months ago
My sons, their friends and I have finally painted our 5 sets of tiles. also two of the kids painted their first mini.

we were pleased, considering non of us have ever painted minis or tiles before.

first D&D game session with newly painted tiles. in some of the pics you can see the use of 3D paper products dungeon dressings. lots of mix and match in my sets. :)

in anticipation of the Caverns KS, I have been working on small bits of terrain dressings that will match some of the adventures. there is my wooden bridge and rough wooden ladder (probably made by orcs). the bridge was made to Middle Earth OSHA standards: no hand rails.

nice job on the bridge. I can't wait for my kids to get old enough to introduce them to RPing. They're still both a bit young at 4 and 5.5 yrs. old.

They are not to young at 4 and 5.5, you can have a blast at that age. Sure the game is short and simple and sometimes live action. Not much different than story telling with a little pretend added in.

the 12 year old is enjoying learning to paint minis. I like working with terrain :)

That's an idea that could work. Maybe a 'save the princess' quick adventure could work with my daughter. My son has a form of autism so he's still mentally too young.

Or the princess could save herself, like in the song, "The Princess Who Saved Herself", where the princess saves herself.

I started telling my oldest who is now nine bed time stories about the adventures of gnome girl her grandmother and a halfling fighter called Aldo when she was two. Grandmother and Aldo when they were younger and less powerful were character's of her mothers in my game world from years ago. Gnome girl was pretty much a little gnome version of my daughter.

At four her first character with a mini and a character sheet was a combo of a fairy dragon from the D&D cartoon and a little silver dragon miniature. Amber the fairy silver dragon adventured with deer, unicorn and sandy the snake.

Once she started to read her main character was/is Rosis Elizabeth Lilly a human Fighter/Bard

Bedtime story arcs are about many things but their second and third favorite arcs for the last two years are about two different D&D parties.

I guess why I am saying all of this is, if RPGing is a passion for you or any parents here, there may be a way to include your sons and daughters even if at the game table never works out for them.

Or perhaps my kids will grow up and never play D&D again cause they are sick of it.

Good job. IMO, I think miniature painting is done ***-backwards. Most new painters start with the hardest figures to paint, namely generic fantasy heroes. Terrain is the easiest, followed by monsters, then heroes. Painting heroes made sense when the only miniatures were made of lead and you only owned twenty of them, but, today, the hobby's different.

Anyway, have you tried making bases and terrain with cork? That's another creative project you can do with the kids. If you want to go beyond black paint and grey drybrush, Woodland Scenics Basic Diorama kit has all the flock and plant material you need for outdoor terrain. Good for games of Song of Blades and Heroes.
