This will be the first of my adventures in my newly painted Dwarven Forge pieces. The characters are level 14. Khaz the Paladin, lord of Khaz Modan. And Kianna Waters the half elven daughter of the Elven Riverlord Kel Revan (Currently missing under mysterious circumstances.)

The brave adventurers are separated from the group... only the Dwarven Paladin Khaz and the Half Elven Ranger Kianna are left to venture on.

They enter the dungeon... finding a door possessed by an evil Oni Spirit... they decide to avoid it entirely since it clearly wants to eat them.

Taking the door to the left, they find themselves in a trap filled hallway... poisonous darts are flying out of the walls.

They dash throught the hall as fast as they can only to encounter an open room... on the far end Skeleton archers fire flaming arrows at them. The dwarf is starting to feel like a pincushion but he bravely charges forward!

Alas... the center of the room contains a huge trap door revealing a lava flow below. It's almost as if dashing through the previous room set them up to continue dashing forward without time to notice the warmth from beneath the vent... A mysterious Ogre Mage appears to mock the adventurers from behind a shimmering shield. Khaz is dangling from the edge... but climbing in plate mail proves to be just too much. When Khaz the paladin falls to his doom into the lava below the Ogre Mage is laughing so hard that the disappears.

The Ranger Kianna must venture forth solo... She discovers a tight prison that smells of stale air... the dust is thick, and she soon finds the ghost of a guard continuing his rounds. She also discovers an elf trapped here. He is from her own bloodline and he has been here so long he has forgotten how to speak. His cell mate was not so lucky as to have been cursed with immortality so he has past away in his bed long since rotted to bones. Can she trust this strange elf who looks so much like her own long lost father?

Though her new companion cannot speak he does know something about the evil Ogre who locked him in here, and he has discovered the secret word to pass the demon door... He is able to write it down with a shaking hand. Kianna gives him her spare sword... She never needs it anyway because she is fully focused on being amazing with the bow. She enhances him with a spell of Bull's Strength and with renewed determination they plunge past the demon door... and into the darkness. The Hell Hounds within the darkened kennels help to brighten the mood.

At last, she faces the Ogre Mage... Her friend Cygnet the Rogue is laying unconcious on a mystical circle. He is impressed with her tenacity and he offers her a marriage proposal. Become his bride... and they all may live. Deny him and they shall all surely die. She fires an arrow at his smug face which is surprisingly deflected by the mystic symbols. "You caught me Monologuing! What are you without your bow Kianna? Join me..." Kianna appears to be considering... she has a fully invested diplomacy so she plays the part. Only long enough to drag Cygnet out of the circle. But she needs a weapon... She snatches Cygnets sword out of the scabbard and immmediately must make a will save. It turns out that sword is cursed, and poor Cygnet has been carrying the secret since early in the campaign. With the whispering of an ancient vampire in her mind she goes on the attack. Aided by her ancient relative they quickly flank him... but the Ogre mage becomes invisible, and turns into a gaseous form... To return another day. He is very interested in this one...

And now all there is to do is collect the loot! A lockbox sits on top of the alter. Frustrated by the whisperings of the vampire spirit she opens the box. The final trap is sprung... a small needle pricks her finger. The other half of the needle is plunged into the contents of the box... The Heart of Darkness.

Her alignment immediately begins to shift... will she slowly become evil herself or will she fight the corrupting influence?

Thanks Shadox. =)

I tried to keep it detail light... while perhaps being interesting for the people who might want to know a touch more.

Did you like the Lava pit trap?

Awesome story and really nice layout. Love the small areas with diagonals and curves they make interesting visual detail and cool adventuring space

love the simple trick of using 8 diagonal floors to make a diamond pattern... it really makes the room come alive and seem portentous

great setup!

Thanks kitenerd.

Since my challenge to myself was to use all my pieces, when I got to the end, I had lots of diagonals, and a couple round ends leftover.

So I forced myself to make it work, and at the end it looked like a prison to me... I figure that prison areas in dungeons most likely don't bring top dollar dungeon architects.

Also actual dungeons (aka where prisoners are stored) are most likely in the worst piece of real estate in the layout... Stick them "Down in the dungeons..."

It just sounds like a dark wet nasty place tucked in between some foundation pillars and cavern walls. But I don't have my caverns yet so this will have to do.

I am glad you liked the story as well. There will be more to come from the DM's Corner. I am on a strict diet of the tears of my PC's.

YES! Removed a standard tile to expose a "negative space" pit.

@Law

Sure thing since you asked. I am glad you like them. I teased my wife about ordering 10 more... lol she was actually the one who painted those.

I did all the painting on all the other dungeon though... whew! That was fun stuff.

For the "negative space" lava pit, did you print one of the textures I posted? I love it!
