This is the final build for a few months, so Shawn and I decide to “GO OFF and CO. DM one last game at our current location for the gang. We’ve always wanted to build a double-decker with the surface world and the dungeon below. So we separated our game table that normally has 4 spacers for a cubby/shelf, and replaced them with 30ones. In a sense our table got a lift-kit  . We completely went nuts and used all kinds of stuff from many manufactures as well as homemade items. I used a little hot-glue to hold the stalags upside down in place, and the central spiral staircase goes straight up to bottom of the castle ( DF stacked 11 high  ). Unbelievably, its weight and pressure make it remarkably stable. The whole thing took about four hours to build, and we couldn’t stop laughing while building it. So, seven players’, two DMs’, and a build like this, what a way to say goodbye to a location that’s given us so much. :D

So its official, the crew has just purchased a 1200 square foot home to house our growing collection. I’ve been ranting about this for over a year now, since our current location, be it two dedicated rooms is completely overflowing. Our original plan was to be open to the public as a game-hall with cheap membership, but the rising land value here in Florida prompted us to purchase a property as apposed to paying rent in a strip mall. Also our plan was to locate next to the “Dragon’s Lair game store here in our county. The problem with that is that the local game stores have become after school daycare centers for screaming Magic-the-Gathering card playing kids. And there's two problems with that; first, screaming kids, and second our collection is not just miniatures and DF we also house one of the largest RPG collections in the world containing not only many rare and valuable RPG books and modules, but also landmark manuscripts and unique irreplaceable items that we’d like to have on display. We wouldn’t want to alienate the youngsters, but lets be honest in that kind of environment we’d have to and I hate being the bad guy. It would be like opening a candy store and telling the kids no :?

So this is the better move, sound investment and complete control not only of our valuables but the environment. We will however have guests over to game, paint, or just hang out. We also have plans for a web-site in the future. So again this is the last build for a while, but I’ll be here ranting away for sure.

Anyway, welcome to “Canopy Gaming ;)

Sorry about the shadows, Ill try for better pics before we take it down

That ladder is equivalent to 80’, if the party finds their way into the secret door below the barn, I think I’ll attack them with a few large bats and try and knock them off…………………..splat!!!

!!! Nice!

That's a fantastic setup, all of it looks great. Where in the heck did you get those -- are they skulls? -- behind that huge red dragon? I love the dragon's lair, it just looks perfect, like a cover to Dragon magazine back in 1983 or something.

I love the shot of the adventurer descending the ladder, too. Great, great stuff.

Wow! Very nice.

I like the adventurer coming down the 80' ladder. That really shows the scale of what adventurers might face. In game it's easy for a player to say "my pc goes down the 80' ladder" but show the player what 80' actually looks like and they might not be so brave.

IO:

Those skull piles look like the Armorcast ones. Are they?
If yes, have you picked up the skull bridge and bone walls as well?

The set up looks great. I like the ladder too.

The set up and everything else in the pics just reek money IO.
How much have you and your friends invested in all of the toys?
Looks like more than I will be able to in a couple of lifetimes!

Very jealous!!!

Happy Gaming!

Yes they are Armorcast, and Yes we have both the Skull Bridge and Bone Walls. Nice stuff.

I answered this question in a new thread titled "The Frugal Gamer" in the Gaming Talk section.

Sweet... I Have Slowly Been Making my Way through a Week or So of Missed Posts, Just to Come to this one Last... Nice way to Close out my DF explorations for the Day... One Question, Did you Folks Get to Play with it? And If So, was having the Dungeon so low to the floor and under a Table an Issue with Light, and Comfort?... In any Event it is a Great Set up!

I think if you look closely, the dungeon is not recessed, it's on a normal hieght table. The keep and ground level is elevated.

Correct. :)

The chairs fit nicely under the table, and believe it or not those photos do no justice for the lighting. Granted it’s a little darker with the canopy, it’s just those dark shadows when taking pics. Also during the game I used a battery operated lantern and hung it from a screw-hook off to the side up under the canopy and it gave the whole thing a creepy cave feeling especially with the house lights low.
