TOPIC: The Battle at the old Watchtower

Re:The Battle at the old Watchtower 1 Year, 3 Months ago
So this is my first time out-sourcing so I can't vouch for any of them yet.

I sent the undead army off to Golem -- one of the big names in the industry and since this was army-like it fit their model well.

I sent an assortment of 50 bones (townsfolk, heroes, some hero-sized monsters) to another backer I've run into on a lot of KSers who runs her own painting service. I know she does armies too, but most of what she shows in her portfolio are "characters". I'm planning to have her work on my Kingdom Death minis once that KS is delivered.

I'm also trying to coordinate sending off my Descent v1 collection, but communication has been a little slow so that project is probably on hold for a bit. Again using another connection made through KSers, in this case a project creator (communication is slow I suspect because his project is finalizing fulfillment).

I have many, many projects of things I'd like to get painted (Dreadball set, SDE, more bones, some assorted Reaper metal and GW stuff for my upcoming campaign, some Zombicide wave 2 stuff, etc) And when talking with the smaller one-person shops I've been asking if any partcular project interested them more. I figure if its their side business/hobby business making sure the project interests them means I should get better results and since i have so many things to farm out....

I enjoy painting, but I'm very slow and currently don't have a lot of time, so outsourcing makes a lot of sense.

Kronos, I wish I could be a player in your campaign. So much attention to detail. Such absolutely gorgeous setups. I wish you leaved nearby, my friend.

Addicted to DF - Proud owner of 147 DF sets and counting = 126 new non-bowtie sets, and 21 older bowtie sets! By some miracle, I have managed to avoid wife aggro so far...

Sorn , that would be very, very awesome! I'm happy you like my setups this much and it would be so great if we could throw some dice together.
You playing in my D&D group and us playing Darklands together in your epic hall of gaming...

Just imagine the stories we could tell... :)

I've got an idea for the next kickstarter...have Stefan GM at Sorn's or Kronos place! I'd donate extra cash for that...who else? ;)

Beautiful minis and terrain set-up in this thread. Thank you for sharing! Do you have any tips about where to read a tutorial on blending for air brush work? Thanks!

Wow , jaw dropping set up and great looking minis, in your 1st picture some of your river pieces look reddish, did you photo shop that ? And if so , to look like a lot of blood has run in there?

I can highly recommend these two youtube channels for various airbrush effects:

Lester Bursley from AwesomePaintJob

Buypainted

I don't know a specific blending tutorial but these two have a lot of skill and experience with airbrush painting and have great videos of their painting methods from the primed miniature to the finished version.

Blood rivers for the win! :D But no, that is a completely random lighting effect and isn't photoshopped. The walls in my living room have a red color and in my usual lighting setup for tabletop photography the flash is directed at the white ceiling (and indirectly at the walls). When the light bounces back on the table there can be a reddish effect on glossy surfaces like the rivers if I stand close to one of the red walls. I liked the effect so I did not correct it but the effect itself was random. :)
