The Battle at the old Watchtower 1 Year, 3 Months ago
Hello my friends! :)

I painted a lot in the last few weeks and many of my newly painted miniatures found their way into our latest game session:

As many of you might already know I'm currently experimenting a lot with my airbrush. The new demons as well as the skin wolves were painted with it (the other minis were painted with my usual brush techniques). I also tried a new way to paint blood effects and both demons and skin wolves were perfect training objects for this. :)
I would be highly interested in feedback especially towards the looks of these minis since I completely moved away from my usual painting techniques when I painted them. Of course any other feedback is also very welcome. :)

Another amazing setup and great photos, all of which are now saved to my computer :) As usual, you've done a great job of integrating different DF sets and have a beautiful collection of minis. I think my favorite aspect of this setup is the use of cavernous rivers, chasms and walls directly on the green mat outside of the caves. It gives the impression that the battle is taking place outdoors in a mountain passage.

Regarding the paint jobs on the minis, love the new stuff and love the old stuff (not very helpful, I know). I suppose if I had to compare them, the texture of the newer pieces seem smoother and the color transitions more subtle. I especially like the skin wolves. I don't normally go for bloody models, but I'd make an exception for these. Dynamic poses and beautiful paint job. Hmmm, or maybe I should say wonderfully gory paint job ;)

The paint jobs on figures are awesome, excellent job. :)

The scenes make the imagination run wild too - very cool.

Thank you so much, Feymous! :)

It gives the impression that the battle is taking place outdoors in a mountain passage.
That is exactly what it's supposed to represent. I'm very happy the images alone (without the help of the narrative RPG part) give that impression. :)

Thank you very much for your feedback (of course for the whole feedback, not only the section I quoted above)! Regarding the part I quoted:
I think so too. Especially with the new demons I wanted very subtle color transitions, I'm very happy this can be recognized.

I especially like the skin wolves. I don't normally go for bloody models, but I'd make an exception for these. Dynamic poses and beautiful paint job. Hmmm, or maybe I should say wonderfully gory paint job ;)
Cool! :) Funny thing: I never really liked the heavy use of blood effects on models. That's why I never had a proper technique for painting realistic blood with many different shades and gloss effects. But since these miniatures would not work without a lot of blood I decided to give it a try. I am very pleasantly surprised by the results.

Thank you again for your feedback! :)

All looks great to me....yes the airbrush is done quite well...I won the Gold Medal when i graduated from Art and Design High school for Airbrushing (along with Painting and Poetry) but that was so long ago....so i am familiar with Airbrushing...you seem to have done a great job, especially because one can not readily tell it has been airbrushed unless you point it out, and then one looks more exacting and says, ahhh...yes, i see the gradations...normally very difficult with acrylics...not easy with airbrush either unless you have lots of practice, and you are working in very small scale...but it is always hard to tell from photos....the true test is in real life...

Great Setup too:)

Thank you very much, Stefan! I'm happy you like my attempts at airbrushing. It's still very new to me but I really enjoy painting with it and learning new techniques. :)

That is very cool! Any chance you could show us some of your work? :)

Awesome, awesome stuff. Where is the dragon skeleton from? And the demons? They look VAGUELY GW-esque, but I can't put my finger on it. (sorry if this was posted elsewhere in the thread, I'm having trouble reading the prior posts on my phone...)

Anyhoo -- yes, love the blood effects. Disgusting, revolting, stomach-churning stuff. Really incredible! :D

The dragon skeleton is the old Kaladrax model from Reaper. It is a very old model and was cast in a very bendy metal that didn't support its own wight perfectly which meant I had to bent it back into position quite often over the (I think 10+) years. And with the new Kaladrax miniature from the Bones Kickstarter coming my way I thought it was a good time to retire the old model and use it as a scenery piece.

The demons are the Plaguebearers of Nurgle from GW.
