Sunken library 9 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Now THIS is more like it. It took me ages to figure out something original to do with the orrery and Thomarillion bookshelves I have. As much as I love everyone else's library design, I wanted to come up with something of my own.

So I experimented with a "sunken" library. The bookshelves from Thomarillion are exactly the right height to match up to the floor pieces of DF stacked on other DF pieces. So I made a few variations on a room with the bookshelves on the lower level and a walkway around the top (or, in some cases, MORE LIBRARY).

I also put the orrery in an adjuct tower at first, and then later into the sunken library itself.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the results.

As a whole, this layout is a BIT more cluttered than I normally like, but it works as a kind of crazy research and engineering lab.

I like the "3D" impact of the sunken room -- it's like the chasm pieces in the caverns, it creates real depth in the layout.

Oh yes yes yes. Law, this is very outside-the-box creativity!
I love it. You must blow your players' minds on a regular basis.
I'm inspired to get out a few sets and play around!!!

Now THAT is an amazing set-up.
Sunken library / two level library really creates the feeling of space. Perfect for the Orrery to then stand centrally on-top of a plinth.

Yup. THIS is something special.
Excellent execution. Well conceived.

Another amazing setup! The room with the orrery balanced atop the pedestals is really something special. You've found the perfect spot for every element. I just packed up all my DF from my last build and now I'm compelled to go drag it all out again :)
