GW Wracks in Den of Evil and Catacombs 10 Months, 1 Week ago
GW put out some models for the 40K Dark Eldar army awhile ago, not sure how long. They're wracks, and they blew me away. I'm a big fan of the Clive Barker Hellraiser demon design (the cenobites), and about a decade ago McFarlane Toys did some awesome stuff with Barker along the same lines (sample: bayne.ghostshell.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/barker_venalanatomica_photo_02_dp.jpg)

So these guys were must-owns for me. They seem like perfect inhabitants of DoE and the Catacombs. The former, because, duh, they're horribly disfigured demons, simultaneously flayed and tortured and kept alive by some unholy combination of technology and necromancy, and also murderously driven students of the human form. They're like the Gentlemen from Buffy and the Cenobites all in one!

They also work for the Catacombs -- they wield all these butchering instruments, they've got knives and syringes hanging off their belts, they look like they might be in the ghoulish business of gathering up corpses and corpse parts for who knows what kind of unholy experiments in dark magiks and astromancy.

They're just very evocative as brooding, sinister grave robbers and torturers, and I love 'em. Enjoy them roaming the darkest corridors DF has produced...

I have always wanted a set of 28mm Cenobites. Pinhead, Angelique, Butterball, and my personal favorite, Chatterer. But you are right, these figures come close and do look good for the role.

Great shots too.

That would be awesome! Though I have to admit -- I'm not actually a huge fan of the movies. I do think they're fun, and I love watching them, but I also think they're cheesy, and they don't really exploit this concept as well as they could.

But, yeah, that said -- I was clearly borrowing from the movie atmosphere with these pics, right down to the Den of Evil opening up in the Catacombs. For those shots, I was definitely thinking about the effects of using the puzzle box -- a crack in the catacomb walls appears, and suddenly you've entered this horrific realm of pain.

Oh, and I found a set of pics of another McFarlane creation that these guys evoke for me....
