Well, my sets arrived today, and so did a cavern set I got off of EBay. Here is what I came up with as I unpacked them. Quick and dirty set up but still holds lots of potential.

------------------------

After the unexpected death of our village elder his mansion was claimed by the Church. Yesterday there was an earthquake and this morning Fr. O'Rally told me that he could hear strange sounds coming from the basement. I gathered up a few friends and we went in to check it out....

When we ventured into the lowest level of the basement we discovered that a section of the fall had fallen in. Beyond appeared to be a vast chamber.

How could a place so large have existed under our village without us knowing about it?

Moving deeper into the chamber revealed a strange green contraption that appeared to be made from some form of iron and was very old. I cannot guess its' function, but when Hans struck it lightly with his mace it gave a hollow sound.

Another one! What strange devilry is this? When Hans and I turned the red wheel an amount of brown water gushed from the opening. Was this meant to store water? It would figure that the Elder would want a secret supply all for himself during the dry season.

We found something strange then. A door was set into the cavern wall at the end of a short winding passage. When I bent closer to inspect the strange markings it suddenly opened upwards all of its' own accord. I drew my sword and led the men inside.

A thick layer of dust covered everything. Clearly none had been in this chamber for untold years. Still, strange fairy lights twinkled within the walls, and some glistened as if they were glass. No answers were found here, and we could hear a deep humming noise coming from further in.

Another chamber with fairy lights flickering upon the walls. The humming was louder here.

What infernal black magic was at work here I could not say. The deep humming was clearly coming from a very large metallic device that took up most of this chamber. I would have suspected that this place was dwarven work, but the chairs are all wrong, and I've never seen them incorporate such fairy lights and glass panels in their decorations. Something in this room made my hairs stand on end.

Leaving the humming metal formation behind us we ventured down a small hallway. It turned back upon itself and then we discovered two doors leading off to the right. Each appeared to be a sleeping chamber, but also contained a large sarcophagus with a red glowing gem on each one. Hans thought that such a thing might be worth something, and before I could stop him he took his knife to it.

Then the chambers were flooded with red flashing lights and a sound like some roaring dragon blared in our ears. Then... oh God, please forgive me! I don't want to remember!

I like the crossover between the cavern to sci fi sets. Those boilers looke awesome set in the cavern, where did you get those?

Cool! I like the boiler in the caverns and the lighting you used is excellent.
One tip, get a couple bags of bow ties and half bow ties. Dropping those in really smooths out the visual.

Well that was unexpected! That's an awesome job of combining those two elements!

@ swcorwyn; Thank you. I've been looking forward to testing this combination out. The boilers come from Itar's Workshop as part of the Chemical Plant Battlefield set. They are pretty rough, but fit right in with the rest of my post apocalypse style terrain.

@ Arcarius2001; My thanks for your kind words and suggestion. I actually do have the bow-ties for the caverns. When I put a real set-up together you may rest assured that I will be using them.

@ jasdotcom; Your words do me honor sir. Thank you.

Like I said, this was just a quick set up to test how the different pieces would go together. I invented the module idea as I put them together. Next time I'll have a real plan put together and will take more time getting it right. Thank you to everyone for your positive comments.

Quick question, is there a way to control the location of the pictures that I attach to the post? I'd like to be able to put a caption with each one but can't figure out how.

I think it goes left column, right column, left column, right colmn... But I won't swear to that.

Try this: Post the pictures, then edit the post. You can cut and paste the picture coding, and insert captions wherever you want.

I love the mix of Caverns and Sci-Fi. Has a real 'Star Trek' feel to it.

It does.
I have never tried to caption individual pics though.

I love the sci-fi and cavern combo myself. Classic sci-fi like Star Trek, but also the Batcave and those Twilight Zone episodes where you think you're watching a pre-historic civilization and it turns out there's a computer in the cave. (Well, fine, there may only be one of those -- and maybe it's not a prehistorical society, it's just an old one that worships the "old man in the cave" who governs them and turns out to be a computer. Futurama did a parody of this with an episode about a planet run by women whose ruler is a Femputer in a cave)

Very neat combo.

@ jackattack; Thanks for that. It helped to order things when I did the edit. Now there is a story to go with the pictures, and hopefully things will become clearer, and perhaps a little more interesting.

@ dandare; Thank you sir. That is indeed the feeling that I hoped to convey. Hopefully future set ups will even be Star Trek themed.

@ Law; Yeah, it was the Game Tiles that got me here, but the ability to combine Sci-Fi stuff with different settings that has made me want to stay. Next I plan to invest in some Hellscapes and Ice caverns to expand my planet-hopping terrain options. Thank you for your kind words.
