Thanks for all of the replies, guys! I love hearing from other people in this world that love beautiful miniatures and terrain as much as I do.

@malagrin- Each paint job is, unfortunately, quite expensive. But bear in mind that it takes the painter a full week to paint each model and longer for the larger models.

@jasdotcom- Good idea. I am also very excited about seeing Jotunn complete!

@LordTentacle - Well, since you guys seem to be pressing me for specific costs, the cheapest paintjob costs about $300 USD (arthyen) and the most expensive one costs $1800USD (guess which one). This is my passion and my hobby. Like everything in life, there are tradeoffs. I am a high-tech patent attorney with a terrible lifestyle, but at least I have the discretionary income to purchase beautiful DF stuff and to play with beautifully painted minis, when I do find the time to play. I fancy myself a patron of the arts, but as Stefan stated so accurately in one of his previous posts, all of us DF supporters are patrons of the arts.

@Stefan - I fully intend to use these minis when I play games (Pathfinder and now Darklands). Of course, I do not get a chance to play that often. And you bet your bottom dollar I will be watching my friends very carefully when they move my models! God forbid they knock one over and it chips! Most of the time, these models are in a display cabinet. But I buy all of my models with the intention of playing games with them. I love beautiful dioramas, and I need beautiful models to go along with my beautiful DF terrain!

@Arcurios2001 - Thanks!

@Keeblerorc - And I love your beautiful handmade Dungeon accessories!

@LordDust - I really love both of those models as well. I am actually going to use the "Barbarian Dude" to represent my barbarian in my brother's Pathfinder campaign. We only play once every 2 months or so, but I am excited to use that model to represent my guy on the table during our next session.

@TexasStu - 28mm-30mm or so. They work fine with DF and with Pathfinder.

Sorn, you should try to earn a moniker in campaign along the lines of "the oncoming storm", or "thunder of [insert deity here]". It would fit his glower so perfectly!

As to the expense, I have to confess that were I in your shoes financially I would likely do the same. There are men who spend thousands a year on their favorite sport fandom, so I don't think we have any cause to feel that far out there!

My players rue the day I bought "Dragon Mountain". Ever since they give every creature a bit more respect. You never know when the GM will decide that this group is crafty...

Agreed. Plus, knowing how expensive those paint jobs were keeps me from feeling too bad about my own inferior painting skills. Those are incredible work, and well worth the cost if you can afford it.

Following the rules:

1) Carrowek - love the textures and the movement implied by the cloak and the impending axe - awesome Uggurd wins honorable mention for the transition between reptilian flesh and human flesh VERY COOL

2) Bloodmaw - while i recognize this is not the most technically difficult paint job in the lot it is the most perfect - the shading is almost magical and the contrast between the three basic palettes (gray fur, beige claws, red mouth) is stunning - this leaps above the rest and genuinely seems alive

Awesome and inspiring - thanks for sharing

Let's see if you guys change your mind regarding your favorite model after you see this big bad boy- The indomitable KRULL! He is a huge, badass demon that will fit nicely with the DF Hellscape set. Notice how small the little skeleton is on the base of the model. That is a 28mm skeleton. As you can see, this model is quite big. Check it out on the Mierce Miniatures website. Perhaps some of you guys will change your mind and choose this is as your favorite model/paintjob? Let me know.

Sorn,

Your earlier posts convinced me to buy a bunch of MM models. Krull is by farrr my favorite. Wish I could afford to buy one!!

Enjoy those!

I don't have a favorite - all of them are absolutely beautiful, and worthy of the money you paid for them.

I, personally, would be REALLY wary of putting those out on the table though.

One stray dice roll, one knocked over can of soda, one player with cheetos cheese on his fingers grabs at it...

/Galladril cringes

I'm a painter, so I know, full well, how much time was put into painting those.

Un-real.

Nice collection, bud.

Bloodmaw......

Awesome paintjobs!

As a fellow serious collector of painted minis (pro and self painted) I salute you. I thought my budget was big at £50 per normal 28mm miniature but these just knock the ball out of the park!

Don't feel guilty - like has been said, for some blokes its about golf or sports cars or mega holidays. If you can afford it - why not. You're here for a good time, not a long time!

After a month of painting, Jotunn is finally finished. What do you guys think of him? Check out the scarification and the patterns on the metal pieces. Bohun has outdone himself! I wonder whether any of you will change your mind regarding your favorite model and/or paintjob.
