Epically cool! The hill-river part is especially great, what an absolutely awesome setup! :)

Excellent setup Tom! The river through the hills is very good looking. You did a great job making those.

So very cool it gives one chills.
So Tom (I'm asking several mega-layout GMs)...

How do YOU deal with meta-gaming?

I realize there is a trade-off between fun and realism and to build this during a crawl (only what they can see) infringes on the fluidity of play. But I also know players will avoid dead ends, death zones and other areas of a crawl if they have knowledge of a quicker way. Dungeoneering only helps so much (without foreknowledge), right?

Apologies, over here there is a term called meta-gaming (used mostly by game masters).
Meta-gaming is when a player has some info or knowledge and plays their character as if their character has the same knowledge. For example, a player can see a big dragon behind/après a closed door. The character can not know the dragon is there ready to kill the character (hears the character coming with dragon hearing perhaps?)
Suddenly the player says, "My character decides to NOT go into the room because he has a tres mal feeling"
Yes, we tell the player the character has no way of knowing.
I will make a new post asking for GMs opinions on this but did I explain meta-gaming so you understand what I mean?
If so, assuming you run a game and are the game master/dungeon master, how do you handle players who do this?

TexasStu,

Tom plays with his very young kids, as you can see on his very complete and informative web site: www.dwarvenforge.info
Of course, I think his kids are too young not to "meta-game".

Very nice setup! As others have said, the hill with the river is a nice touch.

My players rue the day I bought "Dragon Mountain". Ever since they give every creature a bit more respect. You never know when the GM will decide that this group is crafty...
