Thank you very much galahad and richens! :)

Did you build it on the fly or was it all setup before tje players got there?
I build this setup roughly an hour before my players arrived. All my recent setups are build more or less spontaneously shorty before my players arrive. At this point I have all the encounters and encounter circumstances already planned out and I always have an idea in my mind for the general layout. For example this time I wanted the group to emerge from water directly into the entrance of the catacombs. And the catacombs should be the center piece surrounded by DoE Rooms and passages. At that point its simple open all boxes and childishly enjoy putting everything together with accessories and everything. :)

By far the most impressive layout I have seen with Dwarven Forge pieces!!!

Catacombs is my fave set. This layout using the lakes, caverns, and Den of Evil sets is sweet!

The Balrog is my fave enemy in any fantasy book/game ever. And you have multiples here and even the demon idol mini (I need to get one of those) from the player's handbook!

Very Diabloish(fave game ever)!!!

Great work!!!

Your dungeon would spark the imagination of even the most comatose of players.
Awesome layout!
Do you find meta gaming an issue with regards to player-party navigation? How can you avoid it?

Interesting to hear how you set it up...I do just the same, I start with a general idea in my head and then yes, childishly, gleefully, or slightly panicked, if I am running late, set it all up on the fly...in fact, I have 4 hours to think up something quick right now! gotta run...

Thank you very much Frog and TexasStu! :)

Metagaming is (thankfully) not an issue in my group. They are all very experienced players and carefully avoid to let out-game knowledge affect their actions. In the very rare circumstances where metagaming would be a problem they simply let the dice decide. For example if they are not sure what door their characters would chose next but they as players can very likely guess what decision would be best then they roll the dice to make the decision where to go next.

"childishly, gleefully, or slightly panicked" - Stefan, you said it perfectly. Especially the slightly panicked part when running late. Before we moved our D&D sessions on the last Sunday of the month we played 2 times a month on Thursday evenings after work. There were many hasty build dungeons during that time. ;)
I never realized it before but shortly after moving our game sessions to the last Sunday of the month I started photographing the setups. I probably wouldn't have started it if we would have continued to play in the week (there would have been no time for the photography after the game). Now I'm even more pleased and happy that we made the decision to reschedule the game night to a Sunday a few years ago. :)

That's how I do it too! I realize this makes it fun for me as well as the players (plus, is much quicker!); and sometimes allows me to come up with setups that I wouldn't have otherwise thought of.

I always figured I was the only one to do that and everyone else meticulously planned it out.

Indeed! I stopped rebuilding specific maps because of that. It's just more creative and fun this way. :)
