actually, in a very odd set of circumstances we actually last night Had this exact fight in a D&D game, i was however a player. We were lurkin in the under dark, come into this big chamber, caverns and holes all around and a Huge Red dragon pops out, along with a large, and a medium. I ran over to the computer and opened this page up, and go does it look something like this...

It very much set the scene better for everyone. Yeah we had terrain, but it wasn't Dwarven forge. If the DM in that game would put the $ in it would be cool, but i spend to much as it is...

But everyone ohed and ahed at your set up.

Here’s a Rocky Greek island idea. The columns are from a wedding cake, and the gray painted blocks are Janga  . The rest is standard fair accessories. :)

To all those with the compliments... thankyou.

IO; Great setup, but having outlayed as much as you (and your group) have, it would seem extremely do-able for you. Nice all the same.

I wish all the players in my area/group would 'put in' for the gaming experience, but alas, I have to do it all myself.

I count 18(?) of the lower half stairs. If those all came from kits, way outta my league < grin >. Pretty setup tho. From where did you find the ship?

Thanks Guys,

I’ll answer a few questions here. First, yes we do have a stupid amount of DF stuff. When DF first hit the market my buddy Shawn and I bought one of each of the original releases. Over the years we’ve not only kept up with the new sets as they came out, but also we kept an eye and ear open for anyone selling their DF stuff for a good price.

Second, ships can be had for short money. I’ve found the ones we have at thrift stores and discount home decorating places. They come with a fully intact hull up on two posts attached to a base like a normal ship model. Take off the base and the posts and use a saw (I used a circular saw) to cut the hull to the water line. Then attach a larger base to the bottom of the ship and apply plaster around the seam and paint it to make it look water. You may also have to do some slight modifications to the ship to bring it up to snuff. But that’s really it not a lot of work or money. My two largest ships were $20 each and the one in the photo was $5 at the thrift store.

Very nice set ups both! I especially like the Greel Island idea. Anyone know of where I can get ships at a reasonable price around the 4" to 9" length? We build a harbor I need them for.

$5 at a thrift store for that ship?!? And I was just about to go to the Old Glory web site to see if that was one of theirs! Those retail for roughly $200-$250 if I remember correctly... UNASSEMBLED AND UNPAINTED! (I still want one pretty badly however).

You have an excellent setup here. Very imaginative. I know the focus is on the pictures of your setup but could you tell us about the scenario you ran here (or was this just for a photo opp?).

Thanks.
