Seas of Gold 1 Year, 7 Months ago
Hello guys,

I already remarked that every of us have his own very personal vision of their fantasy universe. For example, Tom have an universe which is very medival "realist", Kronos' is more gothiclike.

Mine is more influenced by comics or cartoons and when I imagine a fantasy universe, it have to be colorfull and brightfull. So when I imagine a big treasure, it must be really huge. A sea of gold where you can swim into. (a bit like the big safe of Scrooge McDuck)

Just to give you an idea, here is 2 pictures from the game "Dragon's Lair" and another from the movie 'The Hobbit" (Smaug's treasure)

So I was a bit sad with what exists which is a bit small. I decided to work on a treasure set that gives the possibility of making enormous treasures.
I think it's not too bad. It is very versatile and can be used in lots of combinations.

What do you think about it?

There are 3 sorts of tiles : a flat one, a digged one, a big pile. 1 tile for the borders and 2 angles (90° and 270°). All can be used in various combinations. I putted gems on it.

That is excellent! Really really excellent.
Exactly how I think it should be for a Greedy red Dragon's bed chamber.
I notice that you have a Papo Fantasy - Two Headed Dragon Red model in there. Perfect!
(BTW - The Papo large dragon's are underrated. They are excellent figures. Great value and well pre-painted. Works well with 25mm / 28 mm)

The way you have designed the treasure floor tiles to be flexible in layout and use makes this a product worth marketing! (hint hint)

Just let me know if you ever start selling this set. Put me down for one.
(I already have a couple of Dragons right here that have started to look at my pathetic treasure item selection compared to your Regal Dragon chamber & Sea of Gold & Gem set-up. I will throw them some more gold coins, but doubt they will let me forget this so easy!... Could get ugly here.)

I've been looking for a product just like this! I would love to pick up at least five sets like this. Perhaps you should partner with DF ;).

Very impressive treasure pile. Wonder how many mules one would need to carry all that out?

I mostly DM, in no small reason because one of my friends when he DM's always, and I mean ALWAYS kills the party mule. Inevitably we would come out of some 'dungeon' burdened with treasure and the mule would be a pile of bones / headless..

Rodenbach,

I love it! J'adore!

I love the modularity. Could you tell us more upon how you made it?
I guess you already saw my version of a kickass huge dragon-worthy treasure: www.dwarvenforge.com/forum?func=view&catid=3&id=42747

Those of you who do not have Rodenbach's crafting talent and are interested in a somewhat modular pre-painted treasure should give business to psom miniatures!

As a gold hoarding DM....the main problem here is that then you would have to give ALL that treasure to the players....well, on second thought...there are ways around that too......

Stefan,

I would still love to buy DF modular treasure hords to make "Smaug's" pile for reinacting the hobbit. Perhaps now with the movies coming out would be the perfect timing ;).

This is something that has come up before as a topic, so it is really great to see it in such a brilliant execution. This isn't just Smaug's hoard, it's also the Cave of Wonders and El Dorado and Scrooge McDuck's vault and Hamunaptra and the Templar treasure and the core of Treasure Planet and Barbosa's hoard and so many others...

But just because you put a sea of gold in front of your party, doesn't mean you have to let them take it. Curses, metal-eating monsters, lava, collapses, acid floods, alchemy gone horribly wrong, all sorts of things can destroy a treasure or force players to choose between their lives and their pockets. (Just the other day I (re?) invented the Numismaton!) And then there is the illusion option. But DM beware! Players can get awfully touchy about giving up huge piles of swag.

Congratulations, Rodenbach, you've done it again!
