Some new old scenery for dressing up DF 9 Years, 6 Months ago
Got this from an Ebay auction the other day. I am going to paint it up, and will use it in my next lot of DF pics.

Has anyone else got these sets?

Oooooh...jealous me.....

I googled it instantly after I saw this, and I think it looks like some of the dungeon decor currently being sold by Mega Minis at Discount Hobby. It looks really nice..... I love the old D&D minis stuff by Grenadier and Ral Partha. I think the Reaper figures are, on the whole, better, but there's still something really cool about that old stuff...

I Had Forgottne that Grenadier did anything other than PC's and Critters... I Always Liked Ral Partha a lot, Grenadier always seemed a Bit Large compared to other Minis of the Time... (Like GW is Now, but not as detailed)... Can't wait to see your Painting Efforts on this Project!

I have almost every original Grenadier D&D miniature, and about half of the original boxes. I have to agree the new miniature sculpts are cool, but there’s something special about classic mins. I too like to paint the old figs and will post some pictures of completed ones.

Currently I’m trying to collect and paint all of the original Grenadier Gamma World Miniatures, and have been unlucky so far in finding any information other than the Blister pack lists. Has anyone seen all of these miniatures? I have the ones from the two box sets and a few blister packs.

I am ashamed to say that I Have not even Heard of most of those Sets... It is interesting Just how Much Gamma World Stuff is out there these days... (And I am talking about the "New" stuff)... I Did not even Know until recently that Gamma World was still in production... (We mostly Played other Sci-Fi in the "Early" days of RPG's, Aftermath, Star Frontiers, Traveler Twilight 2000, and of Course my own Game...) And by all means post some Pics!

That's awesome! I have exactly one piece from that set: the wizard's table. And it does find use in my DF setups! :)

I wish I could find Grenadier minis, specifically their dragons - those were awesome. The treasure piles came with little glass gems you could glue on! That's the only thing I don't like about Reaper minis, that is, their dragons. They all look insectoid, not reptilian enough. They're not big bugs, dammit! :)

Also wish I could get four or five Grenadier 1e AD&D trolls. Nobody does the long, skinny-nosed troll minis. The troll minis nowadays (whoever does them) all look like Karl Malden.

Anyway.

Here are all the original Grenadier Gamma World miniatures and 86 TSR Gamma/Star Frontiers release I have painted so far. :)

These miniatures I made to fill in gaps in the collection; about half are repainted Hero Clix’s.

I made Thundar and friends with converted Hero Clix’s and green stuff. :D

Whoa! That is cool! What the heck is that tower made of? It looks fantastic! That's the kind of thing I would love to put together.

Those old figs do look great, don't they? While looking around at the Grenadier pics, I found some old TSR minis pics, the ones I used to have when I was younger. It brought back just how disappointed I was to see GW having taken over the hobby when I got back into things in 2000. You spend time with those old Grenadier and Ral Partha and TSR minis, and the absurdity of the GW figs is really striking. There are no just regular old RPG lookin' wizards, clerics, thieves, and so on. *sigh*

L

Here, I grabbed a pic of the magic user set I was thinking of -- GW just doesn't make normal looking wizards, something I still hold against them. You'll find one very rarely, but it costs $10 and is rarely worth it. I miss the days when figs like these dominated the market -- or at least, I would miss them, if it weren't for Reaper, and for that matter, the D&D prepainted plastics....

L,

The tower is repainted and modified Lionel. I’ve found that H-scale train models are almost exactly scale for 25-28 mm miniatures. Lionel makes lots of buildings in this scale; as well there are several other companies that make this scale. Plastrucs also makes H-scale modeling pieces (ladders, pipes, railing), you name it and they have it in one form or another.

Here is a picture of a street laid out with Lionel buildings.

I won one of those sets on eBay today! First auction I ever won, too! (I did a "buy it now" a few years back). Can't wait to get it and paint it up and add it to the 'forge! :) :) :)

IO,

Thanks for Posting that bit of Nostalgia... And Great Paint Jobs! I Really Love how well The DF Caverns and Sci-Fi stuff goes together... For most of my Dark Future Games we use 1/72 scale Plastics... So I have a Few of the HO-scale Building lying about, they work pretty well... Course having Collected so many WotC, (A suprising Number of D&D minis will work in a Sci-Fi universe, especially a Dark Future one), I may have to look into the H-Scale Stuff...

DungeonDelver,

What Set did you "Win"...?

L,

Train Parts do make some Kewl "Wreckage" and Industrial Looking Stuff... And Of Course Plastrux is Kewl too... But you Know some of my Favorite "Home-brewed" Terrain is Spontaneous... A Great Example is some "Bunker/Sub-terranean Entrance" Pieces I made by taking those Triangular Shaped Plastic Sandwich Cartons you get Tuna Sandwiches in from Convienience stores... Just Glue 'em down to some Card, Paint what ever Theme you are looking for, (Desert, Camo, Steel, Whatever, Mine are Sandy Desert themed), Take a few Hatches from an old Tank Model, (I used Rectangular ones)... And cut down a Piece of Instrument Panal from a Plane or Copter, Painted it up, Glued it on... Flocked them and Wammo... Super Cheap... Quick Terrain... In fact it has gotten so that everything that comes in Plastic I tend to Look at as potential Terrain...<Grin>... Oh... And I have a Few Kewl firepoints made up of old Hummus Containers, with Tank Turrets glued on to them etc... For DF scale I have been Saving the little Butter Cups that Get delivered by some Pizza joints, and I intend to turn them into turrets eventually... (My Wife Hates that I Keep so much of this stuff around...<Grin>... But you never Know what you can make out of it all...
