Well this is a pic of the D&D minis beholder for those that haven't seen it yet. It really does come this way. Even so, this pic from the WotC gallery doesn't do it any justice. It is even better looking in real life.

If I have time I'll take a "real life" photo of mine and post it here.

It is so much more sinister and less cartoon looking than any of the beholders before it imho.

I like the reaper one. Not a bad paint job really. The eyes all over made me think though that maybe it bred with a Gibbering Mouther.....Eyyeeewwwwww....!!! PS. I like the water pool with the cavern set.....

I don't like the WotC one (but hey, me not liking stuff from WotC is a given!). It looks like a humanoid's head stuck on a pole, which isn't what a beholder's supposed to look like. Check out Tom Wham's illo in the 1e Monster Manual. Weird, self-amused, alien looking. That's a beholder, to me.

I actually like both the designs, for different reasons. I think the funky skull version is a neat new design, and feels a bit less cartoony to me. (the perfect sphere of the earlier versions feels less natural somehow)

But I like the idea that there are various kinds of beholder-like monsters (I dig the new aberrations book WOTC put out) I have the earlier one from DDM, and I have the Reaper eye tyrants or whatever they're called, and an even earlier one from Reaper with horns and two big tentacles on its side.

I am definitely not crazy about the earlier, metal DND3E beholder, however. It's nice enough, but compared to all these others, it's kinda small and kinda bland.

I've collected beholders for some time now. I even have one that was done ages ago and realy looks like Nemo's little squid friend that "inks" when shes scaired. I have to get a pic of it. LOL Even though it is Sooooo bad I was overjoyed to get it. I never did pic up Reapers Conjuctive eytis... Beholder but I do have an earlier beholder that they have had to discontinue cause it was to close to the TSR stuff. Pic's tommarow. I need to sleep......

Thanks, but this one I got already painted. I did like it though. The long eye stalks and all. I've always been bumed out that a beholder can't use all of its eyes in one direction.
