One word, "Beholder".

It's a great sculpt. I never truly liked the original ball with tentacles style. But the Deathknell version is so kick ass. And yes the painting is definitely getting a lot better.

Um...the "original ball with tentacles" is what a beholder is. If it ain't that, it's not a beholder!

Hubba-Hubba She Giantess...<Grin>... I Really would have Liked to Have Seen Some Female Sculpts of the Common Giants, Kinda Suprised me because So Far WotC has been doing "Ok" with Female PC's... But Not Much in the Way of Female "Monsters"...

Um...the "original ball with tentacles" is what a beholder is.

No, that's what a beholder needs. But what a beholder is...is freedom....

-- Captain Jack Sparrow.

;)

Actually, I assume that the original post referred to the "skull shape" of the new design, rather than being a basic sphere. Also the mouth is a bit more aggressive looking than on some earlier sketches.

I like the new beholder, mainly for the SIZE. The smaller metal one they did a few years back was nice, but kinda small. This guy is HUGE.

White Wind,

Now that is a Perfectly Respectable Stand in for A Beholder... <Chuckle>... And it Can Double for a Miscellaneous Giant Ogre Artillary Piece... :?

Law,

Yup, the Size of the New Beholder is Nice, And It is Solid without Being As Heavy as a Similar Pewter Piece would be... Unfortunately I Only Got One... (Would Have Liked To Have Two)... Got Multiples of the Quetzacoutl, Mummy Lord and Giant Fiendish Scorpion Thing... (Got three of Those, which was Kewl)... And Two of the Blue Dragons, and Two of the Gold Dragons... Noty that-that is what this Topic was about, but There ya have it...

Ugh. I hate the "skull shaped" beholders. The best one going is reaper's current offering. Now that's an agressive looking mouth!

Here's a link to someone's (so-so) paint job of the mini. The photos are large, but the thing is in the 28mm scale. It's about three inches tall, and the "ball" has about an inch and a half diameter so it's definitely the correct proportions;

I LOVE that guy. He's my favorite as well. There's one in the background of some recent pics I posted. I'll maybe get a closer pic up later. (I have two versions -- one largely red, like the one in the link, and one largely a kind of greenish brown)
