jchunick,

Thank You. This is indeed where I downloaded my ocean texture from. Regarding the Geek Chic tables, I regretfully do not own any. I was drooling on my keyboard just looking at these tables from their website when I realized I did not need to spend many thousands on a table to be able to use Lexan sheets. I bought these Lexan sheets and had them cut to specific dimensions at a store that cuts and sells glass/windows.

Biowizard, I love your design idea and it is very economical, indeed. Did you happen to know the thickness of your lexan? It looks like 1/16th of an inch but that's just a guess?

Also any suggestions on getting a perfect 1" grid? or did you just use a ruler?

Thanks much and keep up the awesome projects,
-Fizz

Fizzikx,

The Lexan sheets I bought are 1/8th inch thick and they unfortunately don't come that cheap (more expensive than Plexiglas). I guess 1/16th inch thick would also work but it might possibly break? For the grid, I just used a very long ruler and a permanent black pen... very simple.

Biowizard,

Is there a reason you chose Lexan over plexiglass? (More scratch resistant?)

Thanks!

Griffin Tamer,

I'm glad my threads are inspiring you. Yes, I choose Lexan over Plexiglas because it was slightly more scratch-resistant, more transparent and more rigid. My friend had a Plexiglas sheet and it also worked fine.

Well, I ended up picking up some plexiglass pieces because the local hardware store didn't have Lexan... but they did have plexiglass scraps, some decent sized, which the owner (an old friend) gave me for free (always the right price!). I put 'em to good use over the weekend in my first "real" (fully painted and accessorized) 3D dungeon. I used textures I found online for both a flooded area and a crystal rift, and I think they looked great. Thanks again for the idea!

GriffinTamer,

Neat execution! The atmosphere you get from using those "floors" is fantastic.

Some good stuff here. Makes me even more impatient to get my Geek Chic table....

I've also been considering picking up some acrylic lighting panels. I'm curious how well you can see the black grid underneath. It's certainly not a critical issue, but it would be pretty cool if it was visible.

And now I need to figure out how to install LED bottom lighting in a table....

I just discovered Geek Chic about two weeks ago. I'd love to get the Vizier table. That would be my ultimate one, with a few modifications.

If you don't mind me asking, which one did you order?

Sorry I didn't respond before. I just saw this post.

I got the Emissary, since I wanted it to go in my dining room. I finally got the thing last summer, and it's been pretty much amazing for gaming on. I also got their GM's valet, which has been super useful.

Oh, man!
I have a lot of questions for you. My wife and I are now considering getting on the list for one of their tables. It was the first thing she suggested when we came into some money recently so I have her approval which is good (she's a gamer too)

Jonathan Wilson, the guy who launched the tabletop props kickstarter with pretty neat $22 pre-painted carts just posted a how-to video for making very cheap tabletop boards similar to time.

Check it out!

Check out his nifty little carts too!
