The Shrine of Kremdraxas 2 Years, 3 Months ago
Hello my friends! :)
I finally found the time to edit the pictures from the game session back in March. Things were so crazy workwise that I was left with almost no time for my D&D hobby and absolutely no time for editing pictures and such things. And every time I thought things were getting back to normal it turned out they weren't. But at least I could sneak in a few game session with my group over the last couple of month.
Now things are (thankfully) back to normal and I'm in the process of editing the pictures I took which I will upload in the next few days. And if everything goes as planned I will be able to game at least once per month again which will mean showcasing at least one game setup per month. :)

Enough talk. Charge! :D

I like your heresy demons in these photos. Can we see some close-ups of the runes on the wings. They look pretty amazing.

Than you jgardner44 and biowizard! :)

Of course. :) I did go through my files and I can show you this one of the purple(ish) demon:

I only have this already shown shot of the runes of the red(ish) one but if you click the image you should see it in a way bigger version:

I aspire at becoming as good a painter as you...
Thank you so much, bio! :) But honestly I'm not such a good painter. I mostly just use basecoat, drybrush and inks or Army Painter.
I never really challenged myself to become a good painter because I only aimed at a decent tabletop level of painting in the past. I'm very aware of my limitations when I look at images as awesome as this one:

That's the level I want to achieve someday. One of the reasons I didn't challenge myself in the past to get to the next level is because I never took the time to really enjoy painting. I always only painted when I needed the miniatures for a game session and for that reason I was always a bit time-pressed. But I'm planing on changing that. Right after the next 100 miniatures waiting to be painted for the next game sessions... ;)

Sorry for the rant. And thank you biowizard!!! You just made me realize how much I'm no longer satisfied with my current level as a painter. This motivates me enormously to become better at this. :)

Your setups are always dark/spooky/apocalyptic, i like it!
Cool! I'm happy you like them. :) And this is funny because I talked with one of my players about the dark themes that all my RPGs have. That resulted in an idea for a new campaign world which we will start next year as as counter balance for my current campaign and which will involve a much lighter theme. All the player characters will be some kind of speaking animal. Two players already decided what they want to play:

So starting next year I will show you not only images from my dark fantasy campaign but also from this I would say more Shrek like world. :)

Wow! Wow wow, wow,wow, Wow!!!
Absolutely amazing paint jobs. The demon wings are amazing and the Reaper pit fiend on the bridge looks absolutely fierce! I love the color scheme on him.
What painting techniques do use to get such great results? It looks way more than just basecoat, drybrush, and ink!

Thank you Arcarius2001! :)

Seriously, thank you all for this great and positive feedback! Because I had so much other stuff to to (work kills all the fun) I could not really paint for such a long time and it's great to get this kind of feedback especially when I just realized how much I want to improve as a painter.

What painting techniques do use to get such great results?
This is really not complicated. The Reaper pit fiend for example is super easy:

This is made by just a black basecoat and then drybrushed with white like there was no tomorrow, especially on all the horns. Then I applied a dark ink to make it smoother. Next I painted the few details like eyes and then the fire. The small light effect was my first try on this kind of effect and I just did it via drybrushing the arms and the leg in orange and yellow.

What company makes that wyvern your aspiring to paint that well? The model looks pretty cool for use in a DF ruins setting with the monsters nest :).

I always sigh though when I see the wonderful models and all that lies between me and using them in my DF settings are my novice painting skills. When I can I'll take some pictures of my current work if you guys promise not to laugh.

Right now I'm working on a Dwarven door entrance prototype with runes, I just finished a small tower with copper dome, and a miss painting group giant cave squig for a future mushroom cavern when I paint up some mushrooms using biowizards tutorial ;).

Your GW vampires have some very nice details. The shading on the muscles and the lines on the wings are amazing. Surely you didn't achieve that kind of detail with just dry brushing and inks did you? It looks like you did some fine line shading.

It looks way more than just basecoat, drybrush, and ink!
It mostly is not more than that. But to me more correct, I sometimes don't know if I'm using a special technique or something more specific. I never had anyone show or teach me painting. I learned all my skills by try and error. So to my knowledge I just use "basics". There maybe stuff I do that I don't realize is called "technique a" or is close to "technique b". I think I would be a horrible painting instructor because I mostly don't know how to explain it. I just do it.
For example I also used a bit of "edge highlighting" on the blade this Ghosts-skeleton from a previous setup:

But at the time I did it I did not know that it was called that way. Or that it is a painting technique. It just looked better.

About 1 or 2 years ago started to follow really, really great painting blogs like Massive Voodoo which really got me thinking about my own skill level and how much is out there I didn't know about. Like wet blending for example. Or all the cool airbrush stuff.
So I bought stuff like an airbrush but rarely found the time to do anything with it (which was kind of frustrating). Biowizard just made me realize how much I wanted to improve my skills but I had that stuffed so far back into my mind that I had forgotten about it.

But now I'm greatly motivated thanks to you guys! :)
And sorry that I'm so bad at explaining painting. I'm really happy you like my style but I seem to be totally lost at explaining it. :/
