Painting Marathon 2 Years, 5 Months ago
I received a Thomarillion order last week and with it being a long holiday weekend launched into my first attempt at painting DF accessories. Inspired by the stunning Crazy Herald paint job of the Thom library (a recently bumped thread), I decided to start there. I didn’t quite have the patience to complete the entire library, but managed to paint about half the pieces.

Wanting to see the accessories in proper context I dropped them into a simple DF room. They didn’t have the feel of a full library, but made quite a nice study…hmm, perhaps a wizard’s study? Inspired again, my simple room quickly grew from a wizard’s study into a wizard’s keep. However, the other rooms looked sparse compared to the study with its fully stocked booked shelves. So…I dove back into my box of Thomarillion goodies, gathered every accessory fit for a wizards keep, and proceeded to paint them all! I rounded out my set-up with a few DF and custom accessories and snapped a few pics (my first posted on the forum).

Although I've certainly seen better paint jobs on these Thomarillion pieces, I was pleased to find that they look cool even with a rookie paint job. Now I just need to paint a few mini wizards (after the hand cramps subside that is) :)

Wow.. looking good so far. Nicely done.
Adding a few accessories, can really make a simple room become much more.

Feymous, excellent paint job and set up! I like that the furniture looks a bit weathered and used, not freshly painted. The library looks wonderful as well. Is the fireplace also Thomarillion? I have not seen that one before. I love the wall hangings.
If you had not said so, I would never have guessed you were a rookie painter. Great job all around!

Thanks for the kind words everyone. It’s so nice to have a place to share pics with people who appreciate both the finished product and the effort that goes into creating them. Your feedback makes me want to dive into another epic DF crafting session.

@ Ipkchri1 - If your only hesitation is lack of “painting skills” (as opposed to lack of time or interest) I’d encourage you to give it a try. I’d only had so-so results with the few minis I’ve painted in the past, but decided to give dungeon accessories a shot based on all the forum posts that recommended it. In my opinion, it was both easier and faster than painting miniature figures.

@ Arcarius – Yep, the fireplace is Thomarillion as well. Glad you like the wall hangings, those were my one homemade element. I found the frames in the jewelry section of my local craft store (I think it was meant to be the pendent on a necklace). Ever since I got my DF I keep spotting random items and thinking “if I just cut/glue/paint that it’ll make a great DF accessory”…I suppose it’s all part of the addiction.

I have been thinking of picking up a brush and trying something easy. Some of the things I see on these boards are just so good...

Thanks for the tip on how to find the frames for wall hangings! As luck would have it, there is a craft shop near my work. I will check there.
I was inspired to get some bookcases like these for my game on June 16 after seeing your post and the old Crazy Harold pics. But given shipping and painting time, I opted to cheat and bought mine from Yansolo!
