Ice caverns! 2 Years, 10 Months ago
Well, sadly I didn't have time or space to do a proper setup, had to squeeze in what I could in between putting the kids to bed and cleaning up the house (seriously, DF fans who are parents, I don't know how you do it!)

But here are some shots showing off what I could. It's mostly close-ups, partly to show off the beautiful details of the set and partly because there wasn't much else to photograph on my meager layout. I did take one overhead shot in which I tried to demonstrate how much of the floor is coated in "ice." It's pretty extensive! But, as has been noted, EXTREMELY and frustratingly difficult to capture in photos. The slightly darker, shinier patches, obviously, are the ice parts.

Enjoy!

I got my 2 copies of the set on Wednesday. Even after owning it for a couple of days, pictures of it still blow me away - that is how beautiful this set truly is.

Gratz on being the first to post pics of the set - I am sure there are many people who will be thankful to get a good view of it.

That is one hell of a lava stalagmite. Hellscape 2 promo or just something of your own?

I didnt realise those icy parts were seperate, do they just sit on top of certain places?

...oh no....you must have Ice Caverns....otherwise, how can you do Fire and Ice? Imagine your Adventurer's preparing for frosty encounters using all the proper incantations...and then, falling into a Hot and hellish world....he,he,he...it's cruel...

Ooooh, Hellscape II preview! AWESOME!

I admit, as much as I love the Ice Caverns, the Hellscape expansion is what I'm REALLY dreaming about. Especially that awesome Hellgate....

ANYHoo... to bring this back on topic (ahem!) here are some more pics. This is more time-pressure'd stuff from me, sadly, but I did what I could to put together various layouts. All my cavern stuff is in storage right now (and, as some of you know, much of it was sadly smashed to hell during my move and is waiting for me to glue it all back together and patiently repaint over the various chips and scrapes... or, more likely, waiting until March when I can just replace it, grrrrr) so I can't do any elaborate layouts with regular/ice combos.

So what I have here is just some basic types of arrangements you can do with one Ice Cavern set. (it's been so long since I've done such a basic layout! boy, once the chasm set and water sets came out, I never went back -- it's been ages since I've made my cavern layouts this basic!)

I also tried to show some adventurers exploring the caves until they discovered a resident. :D The free-standing ice pieces are from Hirst Arts molds, but I didn't cast them, I picked them up on Ebay. And the ice dragon is a McFarlane dragon (I believe it is the Series 6 Ice Dragon, from like 2006 or 2007).

Enjoy!

Last one..

Oh, and to answer an earlier question -- the ice parts of the set were cast separately, it appears, but they come permanently attached to the cavern pieces. In most lighting, the blend is pretty seamless. If you have really stark backlighting, you can see the separate clear resin outline more clearly.

Awesome! Looks even better than I imagined. Damn now I definitely need this too. Damn addiction. :)
And great photos! I love the POV shot with the adventurer and the ice dragon! Looks really cool! And the close up shots really capture the icy feeling of the set. Awesome! Now I have a much better impression of this set which was already pretty good but now I'm really excited about this set. :)
