My first epic build...The Gates of Irongate 2 Years, 5 Months ago
Builds like this will be a rarity for me, I just don't have the time to do this every game session I run!!! But, this is the end of a chapter and I wanted to do something really cool to commemorate it.

Unfortunately there is not as much DF in the build as I would have liked...too many out of stock logo's in the online catalog ;) (But you will notice a few DF pieces snuck in here and there.)

I used Worldworks products for the bulk of the build. While they do look amazing, I think their level of detail is a bit too high, as the complex patterns make visualizing the build in pictures a bit hard :(

What I used to create this build:
Mageknight castle pieces (no longer in production)
Worldworks Terraclips (2 each of Streets and City of Malifaux)
Jail Cell and Fountain pieces from Wicked Additions #3
Steps from ROTA #2
Pieces from DF Accessory kits
Things from Ebay
and, Cut out and Assemble yourself PDF products

This is a Greyhawk game, and this battle takes place in the city state of Irongate. The god of deceit has tricked the mayor into siding with the corrupt Great Kingdom. As troops from The Great Kingdom sit outside the walls of Irongate, the city's mayor has deployed most of its troops away from the town gates while he and his loyal followers plan on killing the few troops there then opening the city gates for the enemies. The PC's arrive just in time to attempt to foil his traitorous plans.

First, a few overhead pics of the whole build...

Next, 2 in close views. One from the courtyard just inside the gates looking toward the gates, and one from outside the city look through the gates.

My favorite feature of the whole build is the bridge seen in the view looking through the city gates. Here is another cool view of it.

I was an evil GM too. I put and archer's tower on one side, then made sure to make it very hard to access from the path up to the city gates. I hope to split the party up - because if the archers are not taken care of they will be getting shot at the entire time, but they won't have enough time to concentrate fully on the archers to start.

I hope everyone enjoys the pictures!

You know, that looks really nice. I don't think people give the WorldWorks stuff enough credit. Your build blends all of the different components very nicely. Great job!

Great layout! i know what you mean about setup time. Some of my elaborate setups took longer to set up and break down than the time we spent playing on them. :)

I've been considering getting some of those old mage knight castle pieces. Seeing this clinches it. This is a really good looking setup. I like the balconies on those WorldWyrks buildings too!
That was most likely a very memorable session for your players.

Looks really really cool, but gods, all that clipping together of ever wall and floor would drive me crazy!

Fortunately my players were nice enough to stick around after the game and helped take the whole thing apart :P And yes, set-up and tear down time was nearly as much as the time we spent playing with it.

The game went really well, all the players had some memorable and heroic moments, and they did save the city of Irongate.

The clips are not too bad to setup actually. You can do some things with Worldworks that you cannot do with DF (and vice versa), and I like the ability to do the towers, bridges, etc.

For those of you interested in the Mageknight stuff - there are 5 products. There are 2 different types of gatehouses (easy to find), an octagonal tower (semi-easy to find), and 2 wall sets (wall set 2 is easy to find, wall set 1 is the primary wall set and damn near impossible to find even on EBAY). They are known as "Mageknight Castle" pieces.

Thanks for the comments and I am glad everyone enjoyed it.

So is your setup with castle walls set 1 or 2?

He has shown two sets of Castle Walls 1. Each Set of Walls 1 has three walls about four inches long. Walls 2 has one wall with a door in it and two 'half-walls'.

Absolutely correct.

Walls Set 1 is the set with real walls, hence its popularity and rarity. Walls set 2 has only 1 real wall piece in it (the wall with a door), and then it contains a few various connector type pieces for customizing.

I count myself lucky to own 4 towers a gatehouse and three wall set1 and 1 set two it makes an impressive looking keep. I will have to throw it together and post it soon.
