The Thomarillion cages are also cardboard, if I recall correctly. Not my cuppa, but your mileage may vary.

I still don't have any Cavern sets, but I mean to correct that sometime soon. I would prefer to get my entire shopping list at the same time, but I have to get finances and online stock to coincide.

For me, it was the Chasms set that gave me that final push to want the Cavern line. Caverns are okay, and caverns with underground rivers and lakes are good, but caverns with sheer drops into the abyss are great!

That was actually one of my very first posts...

All of you read my mind! Count me in for voting for a TOTAL Cavern restock. I want them all and Im trying to patiently wait for them to be restocked. When they are I will buy them all (smiles greedily). I've been wanting them for a very long time and now have the cash to buy them. Sadly they are out of stock till most likely February. No matter, I plan to buy $1000 worth. Anybody out there have some suggestions for an Uber Cavern, lakes, and river sets to buy with my above hard earned cash?

Don't forget the Individual Pieces:
Cavern Floor Piece ($12 each)
Cavernous Lake Straight Bank Piece ($15 each)
Cavernous Lake Open Water Piece ($99 per set of 10)

There are also T-shaped Cavernous Passage with Chasm and Dead-end Caves, but they appear to be bow-tie era.

Personally, I intend to start with:
2 Cavern Sets
1 Cavernous Passage Set
1 Cavernous River and Walls Set
1 Cavernous Lake Set
1 Cavernous Chasm Set
for a grand total of $884. Once I see how the proportions balance out, I will order accordingly.

Ultimately, I want two of each watery expansion, three or four of the chasm set, and enough basic sets to wrap around them. And two or three passage sets to make a labyrinth. I guess I'll have to spread that out over a couple of years given the projected final cost.

Another note: As far as I can figure, if you get ten open water pieces, you'll want four or five straight banks for a big square lake.

I can't hype the Rivers & Walls set enough. The straight and curved free standing walls in that set can be used in the basic cavern set to great effect! If they ever restock those free standing walls as single pieces again - gobble them up!

Also, the curved cavern corners (and floors) I always seem to be in need of more of....and the junction that allows for transition from caverns to passageways (you get one in the cavern set and two different ones in the passageway set) are in demand when I build cavern set-ups as well. Guess that's why I have 5 cavern and 4 cavernous passageway sets :-)

RESTOCK! RESTOCK! RESTOCK! :D

Sadly they are out of stock till most likely February.
February? Why February? Wouldn't it make more sense to restock them before Xmas? Do we really need to wait that long? :(

I can't hype the Rivers & Walls set enough.
Indeed it cannot be hyped enough! This set is so awesome! It's the perfect addition for the cavers sets. It adds such much variety to the caverns, it's just really really great.

Personally, I intend to start with:
2 Cavern Sets
1 Cavernous Passage Set
1 Cavernous River and Walls Set
1 Cavernous Lake Set
1 Cavernous Chasm Set

I agree, this seems to be a very solid base. :)

I started with the caverns and it is the single largest part of my collection, gathered together over several years.

If you have the resources I would aim for 3 of each set, except the basic cavern set, which I think you need 6 of. I would buy about 12 additional floor pieces and a couple of the clear water packs as well. This gives total flexibility (but you have to sell one of your kidneys I admit). :)

Looks like a really fun setting!

Kronos wrote:I was made aware of the tentacles when Law posted his awesome setups with them. They are a part of the Well of Doom from Reaper Miniatures. I was quit surprised I had this well for several years laying around in its blister pack before I realized how awesome the tentacles were (the actual well is still in my storage room, unused and unpainted). They are intended to be glued onto the well, so there is no need to remove them from it in the first place. :)

Glad you liked the idea -- I love what you did with it! This whole setup looks outstanding!

I have 3 Cavern, 1 Cavernous Passage, 2 River and Wall Set, 1 Chasm set, 1 Lake set, 1 Lake expansion and plenty of extra passage so I am not in need of a restock myself.
