Mine track and carts 9 Years, 8 Months ago
I just got back from a trip to my local model train store and they had tracks for sal, 24 inches long in the HO scale. They are easy to bend as one rail is glued to the ties but the other slides through some notches on the other end so you can easily bend them.

I also found a mine cart here:

I hope that helps others.

OK... Call me Wacky... But Maybe the Real Issuse here the Track itself... Perhaps Simply Get some Heave Gauge Wire... Bend into what ever Shape you Need.... Trim it neatly... Lay it over some Matchsticks or Similar... Maybe build a Thin Clay "Bed" to Maintain Stability... Which would also allow for interesting odd bits of old Torches, Broken Cart Wheels, a Coin, A Ge Etc... to be Laying between the Tracks amongst other debris... Paint the Whole Bloody Thing any way you Want?

Flextrack is of course the alternative to bending the rigid pieces... Did you get narrow or standard gauge track?

Railroading people -- I'm sure you know about walthers.com, right? They have just about everything, including some fantastic German companies, and the service is good. To be honest, I haven't gotten anything in years (hence my recent getting rid of some track) but I always had a positive experience.

Sure do! I've been hooked on both narrow and standard gauge American railroads since I was a kid - the Walthers catalogue is a treasured tome of the highest arcana on this or on any plane of existence! :D

(...says the guy with a box full of N scale Burlington Northern, another display of On30 Colorado & Southern narrow gauge and a starting collection of HOm Swiss Rhätische Bahn equipment...)

I had _hoped_ a room set would be in the delivery today to my main man, the local DF pusher, but no, only the short passage set... I hade hopes about getting something to vary the big room layout...

Oh well... I have a number of ideas for a proper mine section, though, and will try to get the material for it tomorrow!

Images in a few days if things turn out decent!

Checked what's available in the way of Useful Stuff. The only thing I actually bought was a rock mold for shallow surface rocks and next I'm going to make some plaster casts from it. The plan is to build a wooden u-shaped structure, much like the the passage pieces, and glue the rock castings on the insides to create an uneven "worked" surface, interspersed with wooden props, as a contrast tot the natural cave walls of the caverns. The floor will hold a scratchbuilt track to 9 mm gauge, so that I can use my mine carts as they are.

Wilypold,

So You are Basically going to Start From Scratch on the U-Shaped Piece...? And the Track... But Match Everything to the Caverns?

Yes and no. It will be a piece totally built from scratch, just like the water section, but I'm not planning to make any mine pieces look like the cavern, unless I make a transition piece from the cavern. My vision of it is more like a totally different environment, but built to conform with DF section sizes and shapes. I have some cardboard and stuff to make a few mockups to see what can be done. The fun part of making new sections is that I can use any terrain building techniques I know for _small_ projects - which is great for someone as impatient as I am! :D
