Endar,

Yes, it took a long time to prepare the table (perhaps 6-8 hours over 1-2 hour intervals over three to four different nights). I have seen all of the beautiful layouts you have on your blog site, so I know you appreciate the effort it takes to put together a big table.

Actually, the table does have a lot of DF stuff - all of the building interiors are DF and the kobold lair next to the forest is also DF. As I noted previously, Tom supplied the roofs for the buildings.

BTW- Yes, I have a ton of DF stuff. You really can't beat DF for quality dungeon products. I can't thank Stefan and Jeff enough for maintaining such high quality products that truly are the best-in-class.

Dndgamer,

Alas, there are some disadvantages to my campaign. I have a very busy life - my job demands most of my time, and my wife and child have dibs on the lion's share of the remainder of my time. This means that I only run my group through a dungeon every few months (about 2 to 3 months). Because I have a passion for collecting what my wife would call dolls and dollhouses (i.e., DF, MBA, minis, etc), I spend a lot of time collecting terrain, minis and products that will make the relatively few times that I play D&D (or WH40k) as visually beautiful as possible for my players. My fun comes in two phases: (1) putting together beautiful dioramas; and then (2) playing a game (e.g., D&D or WH40k) on the dioramas.

If you look closely in one of the pictures above, you can see my wife sitting on the stairs holding a baby monitor. I am happy that she tolerates my hobby, but the allure of putting together these dioramas completely mystifies her. You are correct that I certainly could have other hobbies that would be more undesirable, and, of course, I remind her of this everytime she gives me a hard time about buying yet another model/terrain piece.

Regarding the painted common people, you can find them on E-bay unpainted. I commissioned a Chinese company ("Wardragon"), also on E-bay, to paint them for me. I simply do not have the time, inclination, or talent to paint these items myself, which is, of course, why I turn to companies like DF, MBA and TerranScape. I usual get professionals to paint my stuff. Perhaps if I were as talented as Tom, Yansolo, Dwarf, Endar and others that I have seen on this site, then I would paint minis myself. But, unfortunately, even if I were that talented, I would still not have the time.

Lastly, I have been blessed to have a job that affords me the discretionary income to indulge my hobby as I see fit. As always, in life, however, it does come with the typical high price of a relatively large amount of day-to-day stress and a very limited amount of time to actually play games.

Sorn,
Will you be posting pictures of on-going D&D campaigns? If so, I can't wait to see what you come up with?

Any chance you live in Southern Florida??? :)

Dndgamer,

I play in Virginia. I just ran this adventure last night and it was a lot of fun. I may be uploading pics of additional dungeons/towns if I think the diorama is nice enough to merit being shown to others.

I have a rather large town/city that ues DF streets and MBA buildings that I will have to show in pics at some point. Right now, I am still building the town.

Thansks, Kronos. I have been a fan of your many pics/towns/layouts for awhile now, so I appreciate your kind comments.

Thanks, Kronos and Yansolo. Unfortunately, I do not have natural light in my basement so I have a problem with lighting. Alas.

Since you guys liked my Winterhaven town, I will also have to show you guys my city once I have completed it. It uses DF tiles and MBA buildings! Imagine a city with buildings on top of DF tiles! I get a nice grid for D&D this way and the streets look pretty nice. Once it is done, I will have to take a few pics for this forum.

Hey Sorn, I just moved to Virginia (Hampton, just north of Norfolk/Virginia Beach) a few months ago and came across your post. I haven't found any gaming groups here, but if you have an opening at one of your games, I would be THRILLED to see your DF collection!

If you like, I'll even GM some games for you as payment for your courtesy!
