Cavernous Fortress of the Dark Dragon Cult 3 Years, 6 Months ago
A one shot I ran twice a month or so back. Each time it started in a tavern
and nobody ever wanted to leave the tavern for the dungeon, damn alcholic
pcs.

That is such a good looking dungeon! The layout is very nicely done, and the shear size of it makes it even better. It just looks like one of those set ups that you wouldn't want to take down. Very cool.

Very cool. Looks like a fun game. Did you have things covered until the players got to each area or was the whole set up visible the entire time?

Thanks Rick, I spent a lot of time fine tuning it but that's fun to me. I think I had it up for 2 months or so
but sadly I had to take it down and reclaim the living room. I should have taken more pictures because
there were a lot of little details I put into it that these photos seemed to have missed.

It's hard to tell but the second room was a roper room. There were skeletons, piles
of treasure and magic items all over the room. The pcs were drooling over the treasure
and ore until I anncouned "Suddenly tentacles last out at you from all sides of the room,
you've been ambushed". Their reaction was priceless.

I had the whole thing covered with cut up cardboard and
pulled it off the players advanced. It lets the suspense out if they
can see the end of the adventure :)

Here is the tavern. There was also a small ruined tower with a secret passage that led to the
stairs down to the dungeon.

Great dungeon! Love the use of the Fire from the DoE sets on top of the pillars! Makes me want to get two more WA set so I can get two more flames to use as you have!

The layout also shows how useful/necessary Cavernous passages can be for a really nice extended cavern complex. Did you use the Mapping program to design it or just lay out the peices and design that way?

I also enjoyed your pictures; your setup is fantatic! I especially liked how you combined the Pillars and the Flames -- I'm definitely gonna use that idea!

By the way, how many sets did you use and which one's were they?

Thanks for posting and keep em coming!

Harneloot : I just laid it out and kept tweaking it to use all of my pieces. I have to say that going from a cavern passage to a cavern back to a passage and then reconnecting with another cavern is pretty challenging. Because of the 4x4
nature of the cavern pieces and the size of the passage pieces it's very hard to get them to line up. I don'tactually own a cavernous passage set so I had to use regular dungeon passage extenders in a few places. Looking
back I think I don't even think I pulled that off.

dndgamer: Thank you. There are probably 4 room and passage sets, 5 cavern sets, 3-4 room sets, 1 WE one, 1WE 2, 1 Traps one, 1 Traps two, 1 advanced builders set, about 2 cavern passage sets but what I have is from singles, 2 ogres dens, 3/4 of a chasm set and a BOATLOAD of single pieces.

Hi jls304,

Great map ! and very interresting construction.

Since few months, I wonder if I should not buy 1 or 2 passage set in more. the last map that i saw (sorry, i don't remember the name of the personn), but it was in old house with may be 10 or 15 caverns set, wall or river, lake and passage set. The map was incredible. Sometimes, it's very interresting to see a big big map.

Did you have used the programm tile system to build this map ?

Thanks for sharing
