TOPIC: Find the Necronomicon ex mortis...

He probably used acrylic (easily diluted with water; and not an oil-based paint) as 95% of fantasy mini painters do. Citadel (GW) and Vallejo (Model color) and others are great for that. To learn more about painting you need to read many online tutorials and I won't write one here as I'm not the best painter around.

That's what I did until now (it took me 2 weeks in my spare times to paint 12 corner pieces and 18 bookshelves):
-Sand the back of all pieces so that the back side of bookshelves becomes flat.
-Clean pieces with mild soap, rinse & dry to remove traces of demolding agents.
-Fill the empty holes caused by bubbles within the resin at the moment of casting (surprisingly few if any in Thomarillion's pieces) with Green Stuff.
-Prime with grey primer with multiple thin layers (I want a darker tone library, yet I want a few light books to show up).
-Undercoat all the wood surfaces with a very dark brown (I did 3 coats of Vallejo Model Color 150 diluted 1:1 with water). It's not important at this step if you put brown paint on the books as you'll paint them later...
-Paint/Wash (apply paint diluted around 10 times with water so that its fluidity becomes close to what milk is) 2 times with Vallejo. This makes the black flow into recesses.
-Dry brush lightly with a light brown color (I used Vallejo Model Color 131). This colors only the most protruding parts of the wood.
-Black line every surface area where two different colors are about to meet and between every single items (Using black, trace a fine black line between every two books and between them and the wooden shelves. This painting technique brings out the details a lot for such tiny details. Do this before painting the books as the book undercoat will cover and correct any mistake you do after black-lining.

That was the "easy" part...

What I plan to do next:
-Undercoat all books using lively and colorful mid-tones color.
-Then (and this is why I wanted to look more carefully at Crazy Herald's work), highlight every single book. This probably took him many many weeks of hard patient work and I hope I'll be able to have the dedication. For a book he had first painted blue, he selected a much lighter version of this blue. After diluting this light blue around 1:3 in water, he probably applied many light coats on the most protruding parts of the book and its highest parts (to give the impression of having a light source coming from the top of the bookshelf) while letting the paint dry between each coats. I'm not sure he did that, but to achieve the most striking highlighting effect, you have to repeat this process with a gradient of changing tones that become lighter and lighter.
-Paint black every door knob, fleur de lys and decorative metallic parts (including the lines on the binding of many books).
-Mix grey paint with metallic silver paint and paint the protruding parts of knobs.
-Mix yellow paint with metallic gold paint and paint the protruding parts of the book bindings.
-Spray Varnish with 2 coats (let dry in between) with a dull coat varnish.

Wow, I too love the library. I would like to add my two cents worth as well. Stefan add some book shelves, of course one that opens, a rolling ladder, a large globe and a massive desk. With Dwarven Forge quality, I’m ready to shell out now.

I agree completely with trying to find a set of tall book shelves with a rolling ladder. A curved section would be awesome to roll the ladder around.

Wow, biowizard.
You actually turned your attention on my bookshelves.
I would really like to see the result.

Please find another setup of my old library with my 2 converted half-bookshelves.

Beautiful library! I like the layout of both of them. Very nice! Where did you get the curtain for the doorway. I like the look of it in the library.

@jgardner44: A backer on Kickstarter asked, from which company the curtain is.
Therefore, I have seen my thread again after a long time, and saw your similar question the first time. A little bit late, sorry! <:)

Its one of my Grendel "Door" Conversions.
