So I have a preliminary paint job on some of my denizens for ROTA. These are almost all Crocodile Games spartans, with one Reaper figure thrown in. It's actually harder to paint these than I anticipated, because the bronze armor and tan skin tends to run together, and in trying to fix things I end up muddying them up and making things clumpy. In any case, I'm somewhat content with them. I really like the litter-carriers, you can put either the flaming chest or the fallen comerade on it.

Very much looking forward to putting these guys in their new home. I think, as I said elsewhere, that ROTA really has more of a Greek feel than anything else. The style of sun and horses on the walls, that feels more Greek than Egyptian or Aztec or Mayan, even Roman. These guys seem right at home for ROTA, I expect. I've also got a Reaper stone giant I'm turning into a Cyclops, and a few scattered Reaper clerics and paladines with sun themes I think, for obvious reasons, will work.

enjoy,
L

L--very cool. I have that Ark but don't have the litter they're carrying it on. Wanted to pick it up at GenCon last year but was sick for most of the con!

If you're into gladiator games at all, you should check out Ludus Gladiatorius by em-4 Miniatures. It comes with a set of really nicely painted METAL gladiators! www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Gladiators.html

The game itself is fun but I simply couldn't believe how nice the figs were--and they weren't plastic!

Another set that you could use to quickly bolster your Roman-type troops is the early expansion set for Heroscape with the Roman Centurions. I bought a couple of those sets to use as City Guard/Militia types in my city campaigns. They'd make nice additions to your RotA setup!

Yeah, that Ark rocks. I've had it for a long time, but now I feel like I'll have a proper home for it. (though I do like stashing it with other treasure in a dungeon...)

Here are a few Reaper figures for ROTA. I like the paladine with the sun imagery, I have a few clerics with it as well but this is my favorite. The cyclops is a conversion I'm attempting with a Reaper stone giant -- it's a bit clumsy, and I know I need to improve, but I am happy overall. It's a work in progress as far as paint is concerned.

Here's the finished Cyclops -- I'm very happy with it. Also a few others, including a Reaper "sun priest" that I'm only happy with because I managed to fix him after 3 or 4 false starts. His colors changed constantly, the sculpt is neat but so cluttered it was very hard for me to make it work. I was also experimenting with a low-grade "non-metal metal" on his armor - I wanted a gold look, but not metallic gold. I didn't even attempt proper "NMM" but I wanted something different from standard metal armor. The sun imagery will work in ROTA, but he's not otherwise one of my better figures I fear.

Excellent work, as always, L !! Thanks for sharing.

Do you recall the name of the paladin with the flaming sword and angel-motif details and shield? I've gotta get that one to paint !!

That sun priest turned out really nice too! Love the cyclops, but I am biased, they are my favorite biped monster.
