I saw an older thread that L posted of DDM repaints. So here's a few of my DDM repaints I have done this year. It always amazes me how just changing the color of a cloak or a shield or some trim on a mini that really makes the mini go from ordinary to eye-poppin'! I placed the unaltered DDM on the left for reference.

Pretty kool...have you considered painting the bases to match the greyish/yellow DF floors? I've found it adds an increased level of "realism"

Really great! I thought about doing some repaints. Do you strip the original paint or paint right over it?

I just fell into the DF collecting this year. Just after Gen Con this year to be exact. I have been on the fence for a few years. It was the removal of the bowties indents that teetered me over to take the plunge, and glad I did!

After I got my first shipment, R&P, and Room set. I repainted all my metal miniatures bases silver mixed with a little black, and some yellow which seems to blend nicely with Most DF fantasy floors.

I think that's a great idea! You know, I am not sure why, but never thought of changing the base on the repaint DDM minis... in fact I have even touched them up black in the past. Your right, my metal miniatures bases do look to have more "realism" since they camouflage into the scenery. Looks like I have to repaint the repaints... lol =)

Seriously, thanks for the tip. I always thought something was a miss on the DDM's even after repaint, but never put my finger on it. I guess in this case a brush on the obvious. I guess I have been so accustomed to seeing them with the black bases it didn't register. Also, I suck at basing, a quick slap of paint is about all I will do to bases.

Thanks, I just paint over the existing paint. I have found stripping them or reprimering them fades away what little detail the plastic minis have. My only advice is be stingy with paint! And it is better to do several thin coats to get opaque coverage than one thick coat that hides detail.

I don't strip the paint off these before I repaint them -- sometimes I think it would be a good idea, for people who can figure out a safe way to do it. Sometimes the faces on human figures, in particular, have so much glop a perfectly fine sculpt has been completely eradicated.

Anyhoo -- NICE repaints! I really like the black versions, especially the wood elf skirmisher done as a drow. Really fantastic looking mini -- I repainted her in green and again in darker brown and again in a mottled brown and yellow. Now I really want a drow version!

Hey L,

Thanks for the compliment. I have seen your repaints of DDM's on this forum and most of them are awe inspiring. I am really pleased with the Drow repaint too. I made two of them and they both came out well, it was well worth the repaint, I had Wild Elf Warslinger minis coming out of the ying-yang. Anyways here are some more repaints the one on the left is the original schema. I hope you enjoy these too.

I see you have painted some of the bases...If you wanted to match the DF floors, I would go even darker grey and add more yellow or ochre to the grey...great job!

ooooohhhh, I really like what you did with the skeleton, the boneshard (?) guy. I like that pose and sculpt, but the dark color always struck me as a bit random, cartoony even. But I think your repaints make those guys into really fantastic figures. I am gonna HAVE to try that...!

Yeah they are boneshard skeletons. It was fairly easy. I just used a new base coat of light blue or plum, then a wash of red and or green, the dry brush of off-white or cream. Not that I can teach you anything L about painting your mini repaints look professional.

Yeah my first attempt to match DF floors, I definitely need to keep practicing 'til I get the color match right.

Some of these are astounding changes and they all are a vast improvement. I was wondering with repaints... Can you still just throw them into a box with the others or do you store them apart from the other DDM?
