War Duke,

This is SWEET... It is Great How Adding a Background can Give so much Dimension to an Already Great Image... I Mean I Think as Gamers we tend to Insert the Mountains in the Back ground automatically, and the Town down the Road a bit, and the Old Mine Site to the South... Etc... As gamers we are Good at Envisoning the "Extra" bits of the World we Can Not See... But that Gets Lost a little in the Translation to a 2D image doesn't it? But by Simply reinserting it Graphically we Now have an Excellent Notion of Just What is Going on... Good Job... And the Set Up itself is Lovely too... What All are we Looking at? Who is Fighting Who? And Is that an MBA House? Where does the Kewl Square Tower Come From? Nice Job War Duke...

What All are we Looking at? Who is Fighting Who?

Well if anyone plays Greyhawk this is the east entrance to the city of Yorlith in the Perrenland. The good guys (inside the wall) have been under siege for weeks. The bad guys are a portion of the 1,000 strong army surrounding the city. These baddies include orcs, goblins, ogres, and minotaurs. They are led by a mounted mercenary from the neighboring desert region of Kanak. (He is actually in there somewhere, remember the Mage Knight Dark Riders we talked about  )

The story goes like this. The dwarven engineer of the town revealed he had a secret weapon, but was missing a vital component for it. So the captain of the guard commisioned the party to use a secret tunnel to get out side the city walls and retrieve it. After traveling a few miles and fighting a few fights they came across the cave they were looking for. They retrieved the mysterious black powder they needed and they headed back to the city.

Upon arrival the dwarf engineer produced 2 cannons and began using the final ingrediant to get them up and running. The problem was due to the constant catapult fire they couldn't get the cannon up on the watch tower. So once again the party heads out into the night to ambush the cataplut & crew in question. After a loooong drawn out fight (more badddies kept comming every D4 rounds) they managed to destroy the catapult and make it back through the secret entrance.

The dwarf then moved the long range cannon into position on the tower and proceeded to decimate the rest of the enemy artillary. (I used the Mage Knight Siege Pack for all of the above mentioned weapons) They positioned the other cannon directly in front of the door. Left with little choice the orc army picked up their battering rams and ladders and charged the wall. That is exactly when the pic was takin. You will notice a mass of good guys in the middle near the door preparing for a counter charge, including the PCs.

When the orcs bashed down the door they had a little surprise waiting for them. The other cannon ripped through their lines and the good guys charged the field.

Some of the best moments of the night were when this pic was taken. The PCs had a few minutes to stratigize with the NPCs and you could feel the tension in the air. The blaire of the orc horns I had going (A sound file I downloaded from the internet really added to an already tense situation) In the end the good guys won the day, and the PCs captured the enemy commander for a nice reward.

And Is that an MBA House?

Nope. Remember we talked about the Pegasus hobbies buildings?

Where does the Kewl Square Tower Come From?

Another Pegasus purchase, this one is not their design though. It actually is a 25MM russian model set that includes 6 of those towres and a mass of walls. The price on the thing was unbeatable ($30.00) The plan was for that to be city walls instead of the DF stuff. Unfortunately building the pieces was more work than I anticipated. So I only got a tower and a few walls finished. I am sure we will use them some other time. I am pretty happy with the way the DF looks when building a city wall like this however. Add a portcullis for a front door and it looks pretty good.

War Duke,

Yes I Do Remember the Pegasus Hobbies Discussion now that you Mention it...<Grin>...

Have Not Played Greyhawk for Many Years... Did I Hear Somewhere that there were Some Re-releases Of Greyhawk Modules Coming Out or Recent? (I Rarley Play D&D anymore, and I Have not GM'ed it in Probably 16 or more Years)...

What a Great Story you have Shared... Thanks... I Like the Multiple Objectives in a Realativley Small Environment... And I Have always Found Introducing PCs into Larger Battle Scenarios Both Challenging and a lot of Fun, as it Forces a Different Kind of Strategy from the Players... Especially If They Get Broken into Separate Units...<EFG>... In any Event That is A Great Story to Go with a Wonderful Pic... So Again Thanks...

It is always nice to see Greyhawk being used these days!

I thought I was the only one doing these types of games, but I am glad to see that it isn't so. I will post some pictures of a game I recently ran for my group that took place in a walled, port city south of Gradsul in Keoland (Greyhawk as well). I staged the business sector of the town using 2 Fortress sets from Games Workshop and over 10 MBA buildings.

I used almost every single piece of Master Maze I own (at least 10 sets) to build the dungeon portion of the game. I took some good pictures and will post shortly.

Love the siege pic. It's something MM seems to lend itself to quite well, but doesn't seem to be used too much.

The tower buildings are particularly cool, where'd you get them?

The tower in the back is from a Russian model kit I found in the local hobby store near my house. The other towers are just DF circular stair pieces on the bottom, and circular wall pieces on top. Both pieces come from the Wicked additions sets.
