Hello Thod,

Great set up, must have been a lot of fun. I'm not sure if anybody else is but, I would be interested in where you got your towns people if you have time to elaborate. Have a good one!

The players absolutly loved the game - very enthusiastically - and it was fun to see it bring out the competitiveness in them!

I did have special rules for pretty much every character. As it isn't tied to any campaign (or even system - but what I choose to employ) its wide open. So I specify hits AC attack and such (including any special powers) just the way I want them. I used a pretty standard beholder for instance - but had him role 1-4 each turn for the number of eyes in play and then 1-10 for which power - with any redundent roles being wasted (not re-rolable). It worked well - he was pretty kick A - but not invincible by any means (and he took alot of damage and was starting to get pretty worried about his mortality near then end).

So lets see - Towns folk

Reaper has a series of townsfolk (5 or 6 packs of 3-4 figures) - I used all but the cultists - which were out of stock when I ordered

Megaminis has several useful lines -

I used minis from Kings Court for nobles and priests. I also used some Arabian characters (Harem & magic) and some other townsfolk or country folk minis that are seemingly no longer available in the big pack version - I think they are in the process of repackaging (and effectively charging more for them)

Of course I found a bunch of Medevial towns folk/civilians and such from The Foundry (4-5 different multi-packs!) . I ordered direct from England (and both the service and shipping were decent) - however The WarStore carries many (but not all) of the lines. You really have to dig around to find all that are available. There are a number of medievial civilian packs. Also I used a Saxon civilian pack. There were some intersting Vicking raid packs I may get in the future. And this is where I got the Ox cart.

The WarStore also carries Perry Brothers minis (sculptors used to work for Citidel I think) - they are worth checking out for historical minis - with a bunch of civilian lines. I used some pilgrims in the Crusades line and Muslim civilians in the Muslim armies line. They also have Japanese and possibly African Civilians. The war store also has Rackam shop signs (and they were on 1/2 price sale!). The Perry Brothers stuff looks very good IMO - I intend to buy some Crusades and Muslim armies as well as Samarai - and check out Korean (Chosen) and Agincourt minis - very impressive IMO (I wish I could paint better...and had the time to do so...)

I picked up a few minis at CoolMiniorNot - mostly harem girls and such (pricy - but nice minis - probably not worrth it for me - with the level I paint at...)

I used a few AD & D pre-painted minis - drunken brawlers and various guards and such...

And I actually used a bunch of old (1980s?) vintage Grenedier minis as well as some Ral Partha. Some of these (many I think) are now available from other companies). And a great source for out of print minis is nobleknight.

Another source for Medevial charachters is Mirlton Fantasy (Italian I think) - check out their Diorama kits - some great stuff. I have yet to buy any - but am planning on it. Seems like some might be hard to get in the states. They have some nice wagons and accessories as well (candelabrums and such). There are 2 ways to get their stuff in the US I think (one is a place you email your requests from the Euro cateloge it seems) - but I can't find the links at the moment

I'm sure I've missed something (I've picked up a bunch of individual mis here and there...and like I said - many I already had) - but its a start. I should take a pic of all the minis I've painted (OK partially/mostly) painted these last 2 or so weeks. I've got most in a box right now - its quite a few. I plan to get back to them soom - perhaps even some tonight as I watch election results...

I really like that idea for a game. I also like how you used the cavern floors for sidewalks. I never thought of that before (face-palm). The setup is great! A very nice use of the lake/river pieces too. I also think that two-story MBS building looks great. Thanks for sharing the photos. Now, I can't wait til my caverns sets arrives.

Thanks Rustyblade - but I can't really take credit for any of it - L here on this forum pretty much gets all the credit for MBS innovation - whatever I did I'm sure I saw him do it first (and better). I actually had about 50-60% completed a version of this town with full use of cavern and floor pieces for all road surface areas and with a different river set up (going more through and integrating with the town) - however that setup was on a somewhat smaller table inside - and as we were going to experience really great weather on the day of the game I dismantled my indoor setup and reassembled it outside. For some reason though I had a hard time recreating what I had first put together - so I abandoned the use of floor pieces for road and just started setting up buildings. Thats why it is a bit raw looking. Also - I did the whole setup in about 2 hours! In the future I want to either do such a setup with a mat or drawn out road setup or use actual floor tiles (that gives it a real integrated/real look...but takes alot of work)

Fun idea to let the players play the monsters! How did they (and you) decide what they would get to play?

I just assigned them monsters after considering their personalities/inclinations and to some extent running it buy them in the weeks prior to the game. For the most part (perhaps even 100%) all the players enthusistically accepted the parts I assigned them. I can't remember anyone asking for a change once I presented them with the - "I'm considering making you a ____ what do you think?" Everyone basically responded with "cool" or "I like it"

that is sweet! you really went all out with it. Our Halloween game is still going on, it's a big one and it falls into our storyline very nicely.
