Trick or Treat dungeon 6 Years, 1 Month ago
A few months back I decided to put together a "trick or treat" dungeon for Holloween where the players were to play the monsters with the objective to ravage a town. This would actually be the first time I would use the MBS pieces in a game/adventure and I was looking forward to it. One problem I had was that I had only limited townspeople - but as I always wanted to put together a good set this became an excellent reason to do so. If anyone is interested I can elaborate where I got many of the various townsfolk and village folk and the like at some point - turns out there are many out there - and there are even some more I have not yet purchased. A couple of caveats regarding the setup. First - its for gaming purposes - so no attempt was really made to finsish it off diorama style or even close - and second - though I have been painting like mad these past few weeks most figures are not fully painted - close - but I just didnt have time for final detail and touch up in most cases (and I'm not a great painter besides anyway). I also apologize for the poor camerawork - the pics were taken in a hurry right before the start of the game - which I was frantically setting up right up to showtime. So here goes. The first pic is a wideview of the town showing the road up through farmland and woods to the town gate. You can see a main street with a series of connected townhomes on the left and a rather large Inn - with Saloon upstaris on the right. Beyond these buildings are the town square - with faountain - a graveyeard to the left - a catherdral in the midle and a castle of sorts to the far right with an open marketplace in front. The second pic is a more straight on view. The 3rd pic shows the castle, cathedral, marketplace and town square. Next is some detail of the saloon upstairts of the Inn (note the dancing girls!...and of course the jester on the table). Next is the cathedral. And so on and so forth.

The players played monsters who were assaulting the town - sent by some evil wizrd with vendettas against the King (the town being the location of his summer castle), the Archbishop and the town wizard. The players got points for all kills - as well as for destroying things like doors, furniture, statues etc. Different monsters got bonus points for different things. The charachters were - 3 trolls (Larry, Gary and Gary...actually the names of 3 roomates I once had...) - played by one player, A Bog Hound and a Werewolf, played by another character, A werebear, A werebull, A griffon, A gargoyl, A vampire and a beholder. The beholder could actually charm (monster) members of his own group and get them to kill targets of his preference (nobility/knights) where he would get a cut of the victory points. The characters can be seen in 2 pics assaulting the town square and cathedral.

We had a great game but had to end it before they completely took out everything. As it was they laid waste to everyting but the castle and the wizards house (the were driven back by imposing firepower [and a summoned Djinn!] and decided to pursue easier targets!). As we ended they were just about to deep 6 the archbishop and remaining clergy. The player with the trolls got the victory (due to having 3 trolls to rack up kills and being efficient about it - 36 total kills between them and over 100 points - and the Gargoyl had 32 kills himself! - with just under 100 points. The Bog hound actually had the single high score for a creature by virtue of the number of children kills and due to the manner of many of his kills (pounce/knock down and throat rip) whcih gave him bonus points. The griffon crash landed twice and spent some time trying to extricate himself from a guard he picked up who managed to crticial him with his spear. No characters died but 2 trolls and the griffon were near death at the end. (there was healing available via one fountain and with the possibility of the beholder charming a priest to do it). The beholder had to spend some time catching up to the action after being teleported out of town by a Djinn controled by the town wizard....

I had trouble posting pics - I hope the way I did it is acceptable.
