I would love to see a picture with the wooden top. Is there enough space (height) to get one level done below and one above.

I just showed it to the rest of the family. First of all I have to appologize to my wife. She did like the table a lot as well. Should have known that I'm married to the best wife possible. And my son offered his piggy bank to get a table ordered for me. Not sure there is enough in it - but the thought counts.

Still won't solve the issue of shipping to the UK. And I would have to make some measurements to figure out if the table would fit in. For the last one we had to detach the legs - and get the top in via the window.

Well - will give me something to dream about.

PS: I have my wife reading all I write here. She told me that I should add it is our anniversary soon (Monday). Would make a nice present for us. We started DF as a wedding gift 7 years ago when we met Stefan in Essen, Germany on the Spiel. It would be fitting. Well - maybe another year ;-) [She doesn't like my last sentence ...] Now it's me who is suddenly the spoiler here ...

Well, I see my brother-in-law and I will be doing some LONG, HARD explorations of his wood-working hobby!

I wonder if we can do it as a dining-room table makeover?

Hmmm... . . . .

THIS bears looking over. And I'll bet Mike and I can get it in for a LOT less than $9500!

HEY TAXMAN!! About that IRS refund...

Later this evening:

Well, I showed the table to The Mrs. this evening, and SHE LIKED IT!
So now, all we have to do is con her brother-in-law into helping build one, custom-sized for our dining room.
Have to be smaller, but we tend toward smaller games anyway, these days.

I wonder if we can build a transporter pad into it for characters?

Apparently the top is one big piece. 5 1/2 by 9 feet long and 11 inches in depth. That is the hard part of getting it into a persons house. I guess pool tables are like this to an extent where it is one piece and you just add the legs to it later.

The kitchen / dinning room dinner table replacement is how I won it over. Of course it is really tall. Probably sits 3 to four inches higher than my current table.

The reason I went ahead with it is because I figured it is something that I can give to my kids kids. It is solidly built and really something that well hold its value in the eyes of insurance companies any ways. :O) My wife has recently been doing some custom amish furniture purchases so that helped me also in getting this table. Yes not as cheap as some particle board furniture out there but stuff that well just last! Plus the furniture looks really nice. :)

It for now though is going to be at my friends house. It will fit at my current house but we are going to be listing it here soon and then moving in with my friend to pay off student loans and what not (guess the table would fall into that. :O) ). So instead of getting it up a flight of stairs just put it in my friends ranch house. Plus I game over there all the time anyways and our Rolemaster group meets over there anyways.

I am actually going to be thinning some of the excess DF stuff down as well. Like do I really have a need for 60 + short passage ways? Well yes but can I stand to do with out some? I suppose. :)

Well anyways I am a little excited. It does have a normal 6 week turn around but since mine is a little bit more custom with the two gaming stations on one end it will take a little longer. So they will be driving up the Alcan in winter. Which they are apparently really excited about that. I guess they are going to a blog about it as they are coming up here.

My wife isn't going to let me go to Gencon any more. Last year I broke a $2,000 flat screen TV at the Conrad that I ended up spending another $1,300 on to fix up and sent to me in Alaska. We planned on getting a TV just not one THIS big for the bedroom. This year I purchase a $10,000 table. Hmmmm what is it going to be next year.

There is suppose to be at least a two inch gap between the top layer and the bottom layer. Which mean you should be able to have a layer below and a layer on top. At least with the classic dungeon which is pretty much a uniform height. The cavern should fit as well but there are occasional pieces that are a little higher in certain spots.

I look forward to your delivery and more pictures. If I wanted to go down the route and get such a table then two important factors would be if I can build up a dungeon and then just cover it and how it would look when it's been used as a dining table.
Currently one of the biggest hassles are that I game until late night and next morning the table needs to be used as dining table again.

Still need to get myself on their mailing list but don't think the is much of a hurry.

Well - you never know if such a company finds enough customers to stay in business. A droolworthy masterpiece - but also a price not everyone can affort.

I congratulate you to your decision.

Wow... Very nice indeed...

And, considering that the 10K price tag apparently includes delivery... That the table is clearly of very high quality... And that it is beautiful not to mention functional... THe money could actually be very well spent.

For myself--of course--having that kind of cash at once and for such a purchase, is highly unlikely... But it is an awesome looking table and had I the money I would feel that it was a valuable buy for sure.

maj!

Wow. Hats off to you. I saw this at GenCon and tried really hard not to drool too much on it. I couldn't believe the price. I mean--it's a beautiful, beautiful thing, but for $10k I thought it was high even for my notorious spending habits! ;-}P~

If they made this for half of that price I could probably talk the better half into letting me buy it but not at Ten Gs.

Apparently the biggest accomplishment these guys made with the construction of this table was getting the weight down to a "slim" 500 lbs. or so. I talked with one of the reps and he was saying that the problem with a lot of the tables they researched was that once you got them put together, they weight around 1,000 lbs (or half a ton).

Maybe once I finish the refinishing project in my "ManCave / Game Room" I'll think about saving up for this... ::grin::

I had a look at this at GenCon, too. Neat idea, but so big I'd have to move to a new house to fit it in. That makes it even more expensive. ;)
