One of the characters in my D&D game was slain at the end of the christmas session I ran the other week. I don't like to make raising characters easy and it requires finding sacred shrines and opening portals to the spirit world. The group went with their patron Lord Gunther of Grey Hill to Heaven's Helm, which has been over run with undead, although it was once a sacred keep dedicated to the good creator god. The characters rode hard for 9 days through snow over massive mountain ranges, and came to the snow choked valley.

The first encounter was as they entered town. A bunch of ghasts and ghouls swarmed them on the road. You can see Landar, the slain character, twist-tied to Lord Gunther's horse as the rest of them take a strong defensive position against the hedge and rock.

Anywho, here's some pictures...

Here's some photos as they stormed the keep. They fought a huge red dragon skeleton, thirty or so skeletons, twenty or so zombies and a 12th level skeletal warrior. It's amazing what a 7th level flying dwarven barbarian can do...

Mystic Blocks was the company. I would kill for more of those 3x3 fortress pieces. I find that stacking them on DF is my favorite way to set up a keep. They just look so purdy!

I guess I need to buck up and start casting and make a mold of something similar with alternating parapets. Or maybe you might wanna do something like that Stefan (nudge nudge). No worries if it takes a few years. I can't wait to see what you've got cooked up for us this year.

The roads are flexible rubber from JR Miniatures (jrminiatures.net/). They have great river pieces as well. I use their rivers for outdoor encounters and the DF stuff for underground. Perfect.
