The Grinch Who Stole Christmas 6 Years, 11 Months ago
I ran a christmas themed session on sunday where the characters of my game were charmed by a jolly old red clad fellow named Sinterklaas and sent on a quest to recover his stash of presents (for good adventurers) that were stolen by a cruel sorcerer named Kairth. I doubled the magic items for the encounters, so there was tons of presents. Santa, I mean Sinterklaas, only wanted them to return one item to him, a dragon headed rod made of some sort of bluish crystal material. They fought off the barbarous henchman and his mountain lion companion, sortied with numerous Yeti, and slew the sorcerer as well as a group of carnivorous penguins.

I just got a digital camera for christmas and I have no idea how to use it. Also, the lighting was pretty rough in my apartment, and my flash was too bright, so a lot of the pics are a pinch blurry.

The whole area under the tower and shore was playable, but I was too busy DMing to take pictures of each of the level of the dungeon. Hopefully one of the players will send me some of his pictures so I can show you all the gnarly stacking I did.

It was a fun session.

I dig this photo of the tower and altar because you can see the massive gem that's sitting on it. It's pretty blurry though.

That's the child sorcerer Landar Nordivind and the sinister northern wizard Almaric Boransson trying to knock down the bolted and reinforced door of the tower. Almaric made Landar big and his great sword got them through PDQ. The invisibly flying rogue, leader, and captain of their ship, Balthazar Southernman was up top with the rastafari cleric Tosh Mosiah trying to bust their way in through the hatch.

Great use of all those diff types of terrain. Must have been hard to put it all together. The cotton stuff is snow banks? I guess they are double movement? Did you have any trouble switching from hex's that are a little bigger " spell effects/range " and squares that are 1" across? I love the heroscape stuff and the mageknight tower. Dose your water map have that ship on the other side?

It took forever to put together. I need some pictures of the lower levels, because the whole damn thing was playable.

Yeah, the cotton was snow banks(double move). I forgot to add the big ice blocks from the heroscape set.

It was a little confusing, but we use a measuring tape for outdoor encounters anyway, so it was no big deal.

The water mat does have the ship on the flip side. We've got a couple pirates of the carribean toy ships from Toys'R'Us that are pretty well to scale that we use instead though.

Is that what you call smashing Landar's head all over the floor like an overripe melon? Fun?

Here's some more pictures that Peter took of this set-up. Now you can see the playable area underneath everything...

They arrive on Sinterklaas' sleigh, drawn by three white wolves of the Frigid Wastes.

Yes, they did eventually fight the carnivorous penguins. It worked out perfect that I rolled a ring of animal friendship for the Evil Sorcerer.

The lighting is a bit difficult in my place. Here they're battling the sorcerer with ranged weapons and spells. The sorcerer's spectral hand was particularly heinous, although it was dispelled by the staff of abjuration.

The areas beneath the tower, both totally playable and stackable. Here they were fighting an animated wall of stone and ice. Fun times.

Fighting off Yetis while chasing the wizard through his dungeon towards the lair of the Ice Dragon.

The magical glacier that feeds this lake. Also the lair of the dragon, who is currently off hunting.

Looting the room with the help of Sinterklaas' elves, whom they summoned by ringing a set of silver jingle bells. Balthazar was so smitten with one of the elves he named his new +2 sword(the one on the pedestal) "Elf Maid's Kiss."

These are great. Love the ice caves but I had to think that they stumbled into Superman's Ice Cavern's..tm.
