I tried to make a setup using as many of the lake and river peices as possible. SO what you see here is the better part of 3 river, 3 lake and 3 lake addition (whatever they are called) sets combined with 2 cavern sets and a few extra cavern and cavern passage pieces to finish it off. This will likely be the basis for the next minature adventure game I am planning - slated for sometime in january (was to have happened already - but the Holiday busy season has already caught up to me) Let me know what you think.

Thank you Thoth!
Perfect illustration of the Lake Expansion Set's value (when one has multiple sets) That's a beautiful set up. What a Grotto!

Thanks Stefan - well you make it all possible.

I will post more pics as I populate the grotto/cavern as it were. I'm envisioning a scenario where multiple heros, mages and rogues and the like must defeat the 3 primative wizards (think voodoo here) - one controling snakes and lizards and water creatures, one an illusionist/enchanter (who will also be responsible for some sort of airborne menace or several) and another a necromancer of some sort - each with their own "room" behind the skull door wall piece from the last set. Anyway its an evolving concept. I think the setup should play out pretty well and be doable in one setting (unlike others I've done which seem to take multiple sessions)

Thoth,

Your setup ROCKS the FREE WORLD!!! Very nice. Your players will love it.

My son and I did something similar over the last weekend when we were setting up the pics for the contest. We left most of it out as we wanted to finish the "Game" this weekend. I will post more pics this weekend. I do not think it will harm the contest.

Shadox - looking forward to seeing the full up. My youngest son - who helped with both setups - really wanted to play out the contest setup - but I have had an itch to try to do a massive water setup and had promised my players a game this fall/winter and I like to do it big. Besides we did the contest setup on our dining room table and my wife wouldn't have it that we would keep it up for any length of time.

I can't wait for the new cavernous chasm set to implement some multi level ideas and I still want to do a long windey setup (with multi levels that the chasm set will facilitate) that will more closely mimic some real world caverns I've been to and that will allow some good game play. I'm not sure that sufficient lake/river pieces exist that will allow me to do exactly what I want/envision - but if I do it more piecemiel and not hope for absolute continuity of the water passages it may be doable (I envision modular caverns connected by passageway pieces with parts doubling back and curving back on itself vice the more one dimensional massive lake/cavern such as this one - and most of the lake parts (for this envisioned setup) will be rather narrow - sort of a double wide river and would narrow to river width in places and other times might have wider [and deep] areas etc). I would envision much use of the cavernous passagway pieces in this setup for connecting various open cavern areas and for giving alternative paths for the players to choose from...adventuring into the unknown as it were...). Waterfalls and descending rapids pieces would be nice for this too...

And yes Ghengis - what you see on the current table is 3 of each water set plus 2 cavern sets and a few extra floor and straight cavern wall pieces I picked up as well as just a few cav passage pieces. The table is smaller then my outside table that I ussually do setups - but do to anticipated winter conditions I thought it best to set it up inside. Otherwise it probably would have had some cav passage extensions.

WOW man, i hadn't really been interested in the water sets until now... that's just drop-dead gorgeous gaming right there...

just... just incredible. I think this might be my favourite of all the setups i've seen on this forum so far!

WOW...that is one amazing set up. Looks like I need to get my butt into gear and purchase some of the lake sets..........just too many things I want and too small a budget with which to do it with!

Love what you did with that stone head. It looks amazing! :)

Applause, applause, applause. That really does a great job of showing off how cool the cavernous water sets can be. They really make some phenomenally gorgeous setups possible.

I love the use of the two curved walls and the CWE "gold-flecked" wall to make the cave you made on one island. It took a me a few minutes to figure out how you did that!

Green_knight the canoe looks like it is one from any number of cheap Cowboy and indian sets you can get at stores. not sure if it is, but that's what it looks like.

Wow. I have nothing to add but further kudos.

That's a beautiful setup. As I'm running a big water-centric Underdark campaign right now, I'm literally taking notes for what I see.
