Finally - my own DF style Dice Tray 6 Years, 12 Months ago
I hinted in an earlier post that I had started in anger to work on a new project which I somehow never really started. The idea isn't really my own. Several people before me have suggested a DF style Dice Tray. For two years I was lurking around the Chessex stall at Spiel - looking at the Dice Trays there - but never buying one as they always have been expensive - and then I would never start doing my own.

Well - I've now finally done it - and I'm pleased with the result. The 'walls' are cast in black resin. This should ensure that they are more durable - as well as that in case of tiny chipping you won't notice.

The photos below are just for show. I haven't yet varnished the wall - and it isn't yet glued to the tray itself. In addition I plan to add some (8 to be precise) screws to fix the corners.

The walls are 1 1/4 inch high. I couldn't decide between 2 or 3 layers of stones - therefore went for 2 and a half. As there are no HA fieldstone corner blocks for an octagonal room I generated my own corner by building up some walls and filling the missing bit with Milliput and sticking some 'fieldstones' from the beach into the Milliput. This also helps stability. My master pieces crumbled when I took them out of the rubber mould. But this way I have a 2 inch flat wall (1/4 inch high), a 1 1/2 inch second layer of stones and a 1 inch stone on top on each side of the corner.

All I need to do is cast 8 of these (my mould allows to make 2 at a time - see picture in Thod's scratchbuilding area) and just need a 1 inch and a 2 inch standard block to fill the gap (of course - 8 in total).

But enjoy ;-) I hope to use the Dice Tray in anger on Tuesday for our next session.

Wow, Thod !!
That looks great !!! What a fantastic idea !!
I've seen suggestions that DF consider doing the same but it's nice to see one actually made and in use.
Just great ... now I have yet another project on my To-Do list !! ;)
