Great Sculpting Job on the Beholder. personally, I would have put in really human looking eyes....that would seem more scary to me, especially on the little stalks...and maybe a little bloodshot too....

I am honored that you think the sculpt is any good.

I thought about going more human, the first paint job was more human, but to me it just didn't seem right, maybe it's where i work and the halls being covered in all these posters of various fish, in the Scientific type examples and those dead eyes of fish, and the fact that the more i find out about how F'ed up fish are, and that i don't think they are that "pretty" looking to begin with pretty much made me go "fish". Besides in the under dark a tiny little eye like that wouldn't do crap...

Heeheh i will be the first to admit that this isn't the best sculpt, i pretty much knocked it out Sunday night while watching TV. (famliy guy Star Wars special). I just wanted something that is close to the Brain Collector so i'm not using the Spider AGAIN, for some monster... :)
And since it is a ball like critter, a bit bigger than the Beholder and i have all those balls left over from the Beholder... I figured why not

Harneloot & L, the scale on that picture does no justice to how "big" that thing really is, you mention "there was a big beholder statue at GC," but i was thinking Big as compaired to the Mini, so maybe 1/12 scale or something a mock up like you would have on your desk, not LIFE SIZE!

I now have a refrence for my mini, too bad i don't have an "Adventuring picking nose" mini.... to scale mine next too.

Wow, who is that HOT STUD picking his nose?
That guy is too awesome for words.
If only there were words.
But there are none.
Because of that guy's awesomeness.
I wonder who he is.

Hold on, I've got to get a Kleenex...

Speaking of Dwarven Forge, check this out. While not picking my nose at Gen Con, I purchased a "Cavernous Passages Set" (which I've coveted for many moons now), but things have been so busy that I haven't been able to crack it open until last Friday night! At any rate, here's some fun I had with my fancy new camera after opening it up:

I figured I would do a bit of thread necromancey here instead of starting a new thread as this pretty much a continuation of this thread, but more a 4th Ed Beholder than a 1st Ed version.

Why 4th Ed, becuase that's the one the person most likely wants.

When I made this first beholder close to 2 years ago I didn't have any real beholders, so this was all I really had for options.

However since then I snagged a Beholder in my Dangerous Delves and one Dungeons of Dread, in 8 random boosters a managed to get 2 beholders... er joy...

But this is becuase an old friend is teaching his son D&D, they are bascially using a 4th edition system, and so recently I gave him a bunch (80 or so) different minis from my collection of beyond 4 extra for a mini, a bunch of monsters etc. However Logan (the kid) has as his all time fav monster the Beholder, while I have 3 (2 WotC and one home made) I can't quit justify giving away one of those three. So I decided to make one, it would help me work on my sculpting skills.

So since Logan only really knows 4th I tried to make a 4th inspired Beholder, here's my take on the 4th Ed beholder (it still has a bit of 1st in him so far just becuase well I still kind of like 1st look over 4th).

Not Primed, no eye stalks, "base beholder"
