I'm with you, Monty -- the new WOTC design leaves a little to be desired. I really liked the 3e design, but I think GS's oldschool 1e look is pretty great.

Yeah, not really "beholderie" to me, it's an interesting thing, but too many eyes, and it really does just look like a person that er grew into that thing. I want something more "other worldly".

I only got partly done with the paint job last night, i spent like 2 hours on the teeth and Totally failed to get the effect i was trying for and so have a gapping maw in the mouth area that i need to figure out what to do with.

But i also did something that to me as a biologist really liked with the eyes, gave them some support and started to paint them, but they looked kind of "off" i finished them up, but couldn't help but think after i got the body done, and the stalks, and the eyes started that something was just kind of "ehe" on them. On the drive in to work today i figured out what it was and it will require a minor repainting when i get home that will give this thing the look i want for it. I think it will give it that nice touch of "abberation" to it. I figured out what i am doing with the stalks, the touch i added last night is what swayed this, i just have to figure out what is up for the central eye... i think i will be doing some research on "eyes" today on google to figure out the paint job.

So exepect Cybermen and Beholder pics later. (my black tree cyber men came in and i painted them up last night, Goshnargh those things are easy, Black, silver and some highlights, and some red/bwith bronze for the guns and you are done, now i just need a new camera....)

My paint job may have killed it.

I wanted to go for something different, the "human" or Mammal style eyes just didn't do it for me with the Beholder.

All the Fishy talk made me thing of crabs, shrimp etc and i liked the idea for the kind of dead eyes for the stalks.
Which led me to the idea of Fish eyes for the Front orb... but it may have kind of fallen flat...

Ghenghis,

Dude, your paint job is fine. Don't worry, if you wanted to change the eyes you can always use my approach, "if at first the paint job is not what I wanted there is always another coat of paint."

Yeah looks great! I like how the mouth is very low and kinda comes forward a bit. I once painted one up with brown eyes except one that was blue............Just so he could tell someone that they made one of his brown eyes blue??? Ehhhhhh, that's what they thought of it to.

GS -

I really like the idea of the "dead" eyes. It looks good ... don't sweat it. We are our own worst ctitics. If, however, it still bugs you, you can always add a gloss coat to the eyes to give them a wet look and that, in turn, will provide a "hot spot" of a highlight rather than painting one. Painting eye highlights, especially with many eyes in different directions can get tricky. Another trick is to "paint" elmers glue over the eyes and let it dry (clear, don't worry) ... this gives it a thicker "membrane" that isn't overly glossy.

Nice job !!

I like the "crab eyes" the stalk ones, it's the big "fish eye" in the front i am all wondering if it works.

I messed up a bit on the upper jaw's teeth, they are a bit more "buck toothed" than i wanted, part of that is due to not having enough space in the mouth for all the teeth. I was orignally going to go for a kind of shark effect, with a few rows of teeth (yeah even before the "fishy" 4E version was shown there was a strong kind of fish inspired idea behind my beholder). I wanted rows of gnashing teeth, to produce a truely abberant form. But my orignal plan didn't work at all, this was kind of second try that work pretty close but on the next one i will do it better having learned some of the mistakes in this one, one is do them Before i do the rest of it... I think part of the failure was planning on when it all came together.

Well having more fun with Abberations....

There seem to be a lot in the Mod i am running at the moment, and since it was pretty beholder like to begin with i transformed one of the beholders i was working on into a "Neh-Thalggu".

I think the base sculpt came out ok, i am a little unsure as the size. I think it's a bit smalle for Huge, but eh well see. It's legs fit barely on the the Huge base, but the body is a bit small. I need to get it primed up and painted tonight. It's not perfect but i think it will work... Pictures comming soon, hopefull tonight. I knocked it out yesterday pretty much and i like it for a most likely 1 shot monster....

Now to a question based on this description...
oh and the Picture on page 22 of this

"Bilewretch of Holashner

Huge Aberration
Source(s): Dungeon#144
A thing half-centipede, half-squid, with a single, alien black eye which stares from its octopoid head."

Which of the creatures bellow best fits?

Far left or Far right?
It is bellow

Harneloot, if you are in the US these should be pretty easy to pick up still, I just snagged a second set about 2 weeks ago.

Try your local KB , Toy Liquadotrs, or Toy's R Us, even Wallmart, K-mart, target Might have them, but i know here in CT that they are in many local KB Toy Stores, and i think a few are in clearence in TRU as well.

They are from the 2005 line of action figures for King Kong (by Peter Jackson). The one you are looking for is
Creatures of Skull Island

As soon as i saw this set i grabbed it back in 2005 when it was like $7, they just look like cool monsters (mainly for SW but hey they work in D&D too) and 3 monsters for $7 isn't bad. I picked up a second and a few others from the line last weekend for $2 each.

I grabbed the Kong Vs. Piranhadon
Cuase i think the Piranhadon makes a pretty darn decent base for an Aboleth.
