Greetings,

I have watched for nearly two years, with nary a peep, but here goes!

These are custom conversions of DF stuff I have made. Hope you enjoy!

Hi Cleavthorn -

Welcome !! I'm glad you found your "voice" after lurking for 2 years ... what nice conversions to share !! Looking forward to seeing more of your work. How did you make your spider webs, BTW?

The portal, fungus and web pieces look AWESOME!

I thought my own web accessory pieces turned out great, until I saw your example.

May I ask how you did it?

Certianly!

There is a single piece of...well..spiderwire (fishline would work just as well) that was superglued to the back (around the stone in the top corner), then glued to the lower edges of the floor on the sides. I let it dry for a few hours.

The miniature is an old Grenadier guy who had to have his base removed.

I got out my handy-dandy hot glue gun and worked on the mini first, then placed the mini under the wire and went crazy!

Finishing touch: I took a pearl white acrylic paint and drybrushed, it realy is what "made" the piece to the naked eye.

Thank you!

I think you just "saved" my web accessories.

A pearl white finish would really bring them back "up to par", so-to-speak.

Did you actually use (pearl white) paint or acrylic nail polish?

It (nail polish) was suggested to me (by a family friend) as an option for another project, but I haven't tried it yet so I don't know if it will actually work.

That being said, I'll try it this time and will post whether it proves successful or not.

Steve.

Lets see, I used:

Palmer
Prism Pearls
White Satin (item number 177603)

Nice colors, good sheen.

I don't know about the nail polish. It would be tricky in some areas not getting it on the DF piece, and if you do that with the acrylic and have a wet towel handy you can wipe it off ;)

Very nice! And this is the SECOND time I've been tempted to try something like this. I wonder if DF will ever release official dungeon tiles with webbing on them... Wicked III, perhaps?

Welcome - and thanks for sharing. I always love to see some scratch builds or modifications - as they give ideas for own project. Even better if there are explanations included. It save a lot of own experimentation.

L
In regard to 'webbing' of official DF pieces. I would love it - but I can see an issue in regard to sturdiness. Currently DF is pretty sturdy and while not indestructible you have to handle it pretty badly to cause visible damage which degrades the long time appeal.
With the webbing I wouldn't know how to make it in a way which appeals to the eye while still sturdy enough to survive the rigours of game play. Currently only DOE and the DF figures are out of bounds for my kids. With the webbing I would expect the first think they try would be to 'add' one of their own figures in the web ...
