OK, so one of the rock formations in HA cavern mold #82 has a water pool in it (ditto for the other cavern wall mold, which I haven't bought). I was leaving it for later, but I decided everything else was close enough to finished, so I decided to go for it.

Now, it seemed wrong just to pour clear resin into the pool -- that would look out of place with all the murky, slightly tinted water already in the DF caverns. And I noticed that much of the shallow water in the caverns is over space that has been painted a kind of aqua, green-blue algae color. Since one of the little basins in the HA piece is a close match to the DF basins, I figured it would make perfect sense to try to duplicate that look. So I painted the basin a kind of light aqua and then tinted the resin ever so slightly with a brownish green.

Problem: neon-aqua obviously unnatural pool of .... something. The newly painted base was just far too intense, too bright, too WRONG. The resin came out fine, but it was transparent enough to reveal the bright bluegreen below, and.. well... It looked neat, and I let it sit overnight deciding that it might be cool to have some color to spice the place up (which is also, presumably, why the DF water is so colorful). But, while I might do another one like this just for the heckuvit eventually, I didn't want my first, and currently ONLY, accessories to have such an odd, possibly magical, clearly not water, substance in the pool.

Luckily, it was very, very shallow, and after only 8 hours or so, hardly set. So I scraped off what I could, painted the bottom to match the DF again, and then added a much lighter tinted water to the now-brown piece. There's still a HINT of color, but it is much more subdued, and a lot more like water now. I'm much happier with it.

Enjoy!

I was going to start another thread for this series, but since these pics are featuring product from another company (though not quite a "competitor," since the products are not really the same thing), I decided it would be tacky. So here are some (hopefully) neat pics to enjoy along the same theme -- caverns, HA accessories, cool DF lakes....

(and, say, from the look of the overview shot, it seems that these pictures are showing elements requiring access to TWO lake sets.... hmmm....)

OK, continuing with the theme of sticking all these pics in this one thread...

I wanted to show off what it's like to use the smaller HA accessories to make a sort of organic "railing" for a second-floor cavern level. I made a kind of balcony for a mysterious mind-flayer mage....

Enjoy!

L,

That is AWESOME!!!

Just a great use of those HA pieces.

I recall Stefan mentioning the possibility of larger cavernous formations in the future. That being said, I hope there will also be some medium-sized formations (similar in size to these) so that we can have obstacles that are not necessarily barriers (walls etc), throughout the caverns.
