All

I'm back to casting with Clear Resin again. I've improved a few bits since my first sets I showed here as I currently work on my third generation. The piece below was a test - and I'm quite pleased how it turned out. It can be either used as a piece on it's own - as part of a passage way - or it might be the entrance to a world of ice.

The whole passage is cast in a single piece. The wall of ice was added after casting. And it is the first attempt to use some snow.

Some better lighting would have helped ... but I left the first shot in half darkness for atmosphere.

Did you make a mold for a whole passage bit? based off of HA, or your own creation, or something else...
or how did you get the single piece?

Making some molds was my second generation. I did a mold for a simple corner, wall and 2 floors to ease making more ice pieces.

The passage is part of some Mystic Block molds I bought a few weeks ago. It was actually cheaper as buying the rubber - and saved me quite some work as well.

Nice work, Thod. How did you do the snow?

Otherworl, L

Thanks for the encouraging words. I still need a few more corners for a sensible layout - but I will post something bigger once I have finished the castings.

2Otherworld - the snow is from Antenociti's workshop. Bought it at Salute - together with some Testors Dull Coat. I'm absolutely happy with both. I looked into purchasing some snow just after someone here asked for my first Ice Set. For Railroads I could only get one liter of the stuff. And I never was sure it's worthwhile buying on it's own online once I add shipping. But I'm glad I got the snow now.

It's one of the situations where you need to buy it, use it - and afterwords know if it works - or doesn't. And as the extra "wall" isn't as clear as the cast (Glue Gun vs. clear resin) it is essential for masking / to let the whole lot look natural again.

I Love it, Thod! Very nicely done.

I'm dreaming of a complete ICE cavern set from Dwarven Forge for the rest of us that can't build this stuff...hopefully some day Stefan will surprise us all with that!

With all of the nice, "ice" minis starting to come out, it would be really, really - COOL!

Guys,

I (AHEM - 'acquired' ) Thod's Ice Set and I can tell you, it's EXCELLENT!

Thod, still no word on your shipment? I'll have to see if my shipper can track it down and see where it went. Sometimes the USPS is less than helpful about package tracking, but let me see what they can do, okay?

Great, I was thinking about that first ice set and brought out my old Remmorez from Ral Partha the other day. Got to post pics.
