So, Ghenghis Ska was kind enough to trade some of my DDM figs for some bits and bobs from the Hirst Arts sci-fi molds, so I could experiment around and see which molds I wanted to order.

I quickly put together some roughly-similar-to-DF wall pieces, primed 'em black, drybrushed some silver on, and messed around with 'em.

I haven't taken out my DF SF walls yet, other than one piece I used as a model, so I don't have the FULL scheme developed yet. But I did use some of the DF flooring with these, just to get a sense of what is possible.

The answer seems to be -- "If you have enough flooring, just about anything." These work, aesthetically, pretty darn well. But I can see that getting them to line up with DF walls would be very tricky. Just from how they fit on the floors, you can already tell that they aren't going to go sweetly together.

Enjoy the pics!

Wow the light silver ( i guess i don't dry brush well, mine are much more silvery) looks really nice. And they look kind of imperial with that dark coat. I might for a light gray instead of silver to get an imperial look. But the casting for these bits got me working again on the stuff and. These look nice. on the Df floors.

The butress like effect with the door parts is really good, i like it too, i just haven't done much with it. and i like some of the rounded bits.

Think after this contest, or maybe for this contest might have to finish up a few things, but i only have 14 days!

Here are some better pics of the setup, now with Tony's pieces included. The tank piece is huge, it towers over everything else, so I don't have great pics of it yet-- it needs a much bigger setup for those kinds of pics to work. Also, I've noticed that the coloring on the floor pieces changes with the light -- in the yellow light of the lamp last night, the homemade pieces looked bluer than the yellower official DF pieces. In the white light of the day, the floors are a much better match. Still not perfect, but much harder to distinguish. I'm including pics from both settings to show what I mean.

I couldn't quite figure out the best way to paint the damaged floor innards, so I just randomly splashed colors on them. I'm happy with the results.

Hopefully these pictures can convince Stefan that we need SF passage converter floors! Look how great the outside walls of those passages are, how cool they look when integrated into a room!

OK, since I've already used this thread for this sort of thing, I'll keep doing it. The subject header is at least accurate this way.

These are more pics of the same basic elements, though this time I've tried to show off how useful the 4-way intersection can be when it is used as basic walls. I realize that I'm going to have to give my HA pieces a few more coats of drybrushed silver if I want a closer match to DF. But these shots still work, I think. I particularly wanted to show off the use of the corridor piece as walls for rooms -- the corners of some of these rooms are just so COOL when you have those converters available...!

Those are all VERY kool!

thanks for the inspirational pics...already planning to make the "filler" pieces for the regular dungeon stuff sometime this year or next...perhaps we could add it to the upcoming Sci-Fi thing, but still not sure exactly what the Sci-Fi set will be comprised of...it's mostly Jeff's baby now...he's in the process of brainstorming...

L - Great pictures, and great layout - thanks as always for sharing! I am terribly envious of your Sci-fi collection!

Stefan - Hooray! for dungeon filler pieces - I'll look forward to doing something with fantasy like L did with Sci-fi above.

It's not a dungeon. It's an Underground Fortified Defense Installation.

Cool! Filler pieces! Those will be very neat, especially for the traps passages... would LOVE to place those alongside rooms...

Anyhoo, while messing around with these, I realized that the HA "transporter" piece can fit really seamlessly into the DF setup. It's actually one of the better matches. So here are some pics showing it off, along with a few others....
