question on adding lightsabers to D&D figures. are you using lightsabers from duplicates and cutting/glueing them onto D&D. if so what type of glue. thanks

GS,

AWESOME stuff!

Although each entry plays to different strengths, each one also has some exceptional elements to them.

Win or lose, I would think these to be very strong entries indeed.

Good luck.

Wicked cool, no these aren’t from other figures they are straight add ons, this again goes back to my days of doing custom action figures, there is a company called Plastruct Inc., that makes acrylic rods in various diameters. I used to use the 2.4mm diameter rods for 3.75 inch action figures. They make a 1/16” (1.6mm) diameter rod that is about dead on in width for the minis sabers. So I bought a pack each of the red, green, yellow, clear, and blue rods and so I have tons of rods that make sabers. Just use nail clippers to trim them to size and supper glue them in hand (I find gel works better than liquid), if you are fitting them in a hilt that is already there, I tend to sharpen a pointy end on one end and glue it into the hole I bored in the hilt.

Last submission

Obligatory Battle of Hoth
Dimensions 48x30
Era: Galactic Civil War/Rebellion

This is kind of the obligatory Hoth set up, because when I think of Epic Battles in SW, I think of Hoth. It was the first massive, or Epic battle we see in the movies. Yavin was largely a collection of individual dogfights, or essentially bombing runs, and while there is a lot of tension in the battle it isn’t Epic. Hoth is the first battle we see of that, and I think it is in many peoples eye the first epic battle. It shows up in so many video games (like the Trench run) that it is Iconic, and so it almost has to be done; however the scale of the battle has always been a problem, and these dimensions of this contest were no different. This is solved in many Video games by doing a section, it is something I decided to do as well, a section and in the end the Battlefront video game series gave a decent backdrop to do the scene,
This is designed largely as from Battlefront. The figures used are largely the figures from the various game levels. A few of the unlock-able options are in Imperial Officers, and Dark troopers. The Rebel smuggler, Wookiee and Bothan spy. However there are a few more Heroes than in the game, Veers, Vader, and Boba on the Imperial Side, and included on the Rebel, a Customized Luke Jedi Pilot, Chewbacca and Leia.

Terrain Elements are Homemade and from Hasbro Unleashed Battle Pack Evacuation at Echo Base.

I'll second that.

AWESOME stuff GS!

I would be so collecting Sci-Fi now if it weren't for the shipping costs. Alas, I just can't afford int'l shipping rates for another 20-30 sets.

While not completely DF related, there is a thread over in the WotC SW boards with many of the entries.

So head over Post you Epic battles Picture Submissions here.... and take a look if you are interested.

Darn some of these are really good.

Yeah there are a few i think will be some very tough competition.
But some of them may not have actually made it in by the deadline...

Something some one else said to may has me wondering about the ones with all the customs, it could work against them.
If the contest is designed to show off the actual minis, the ones WotC sells (they made comments about using only WotC minis for figures), a friend pointed out that there are a lot that aren't legal, and he said " i wish the guy had used legal minis to show off the game and things you can actually buy."
The ones very customized might work against the person who did them. Becuase it doesn't actually show case the product it show cases the person skill in customizing not what WotC actually sells. One of the reasons why i actually went for the Gridded terrain and why i like DF, is you can play the game by the rules written using the grided stuff. It show cases the game closer to the way it is supposed to be played, but just takes it to a 3D level on the terrain instead of a flat map.

As to the square bases, i thought i had mentioned over in another thread, i don't care as long as they aren't taller than the round. It will actually make some of my metal WotC SW figures fit in more ;) :D
I don't have consistant bases as it is for figures, would i perfer it, yeah, but it doesn't get me annoyed and it isn't enough to get my feathers ruffled.
The change in size with the Large in D&D i actually noticed when i put two side by side, i can understand why they did it (takes up more of the 2x2, and for some of the newer minis allows for more stability of the figure, and it don't really bother me either, a bit more than the square but still not that much. Mainly cause i made a bunch of DF stlye pattern custom bases for stuff, that now don't match in size.
