here's a small preview of the new pieces for the lake and River Expansion set....these sculpts show the finished sculptures before painting and application of water...

Fantastic!

I can see what you meant in the other thread -- for anyone who hasn't used the Lake set, these do risk looking like minor variations on essentially the same piece. But really, these are outrageously useful, cool, dare-I-say essential pieces for cavernous water layouts. The Lake Set is about to get 10 times cooler....

Stefan,

Thanks for the cool pics!!! Any chance we can get you to spill some more beans? Hmmm.... What about teh 2 corner piece. I find connecting the river and lakes sets with multiple feeds this piece is great. Will the advance builders set contain these pieces also? I would think 1 would be good. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Where esle, may I ask, do you get these kind of "sneak peeks" into the inner workings of one of your favorite things?

Thanks again for helping us feel so included in the DF process Stefan - it really revs me up!!!

Heck, where else do you have even the slightest chance of getting EXACTLY what you ask for?

Stefan,

Thanks for the sneak preview...they look great!

While I'm here, might I second Shadox's request for a 2-corner (River to lake) conversion piece to be included with the WAB Set if at all possible.

I know there is such a piece in the Lake set already, but this piece is also needed for transitions between the small islands to open water when building larger lake setups.

Even including one of these pieces would be terrific!

BTW, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of having multiples (x4, hopefully) of the one corner piece. These are needed in quantity in comparison to the other pieces.

Thanks again.

Steve.

i would have liked it more when the pieces would have a minor change.

They could have a small rock island in the water (like on the alternate lake-corner piece),
or the corner on these new bits is slightly larger with a irregular shape,
or some stalagmites showing out of the water to make them look more 3d.

Good thing of these sculpts right now is that they are flat and cauold be stowed away
more easy.

Anyway count me in for 1-2 of these sets (depends on the pieces)

I know what you mean -- the Lake Set is so spectacular in part because it has those stalagmites in the water. But like you said, this will mean easier storage. Storing the water pieces is kinda a pain, I'm afraid. Everything else from DF is small enough and sturdy enough that I can toss it in a bin - I keep the original boxes for some things, but for endless quantities of basic dungeon walls, bins save me a ton of space. With the water pieces, it's tricky...

And I have to say, while funkier water pieces would be fun, this will make the set a lot more flexibile. The water elements are designed to be in caverns, but a lot of people who have posted pics (including me) have used it in other environments. I've done a Venice-like township and a jungle, I've seen pics of sewers and so on from other people. The more basic the water elements, the greater number of uses they can be put to.

I figure since Stefan is approaching this set as a basic building set, full of elements you'd need for various shapes of lake, it can be essentially practical in its design. The Wicked Water set which is to follow -- which could have things like waterfalls and whirlpools and tentacles emerging from the water, etc. -- that could have more cool, distinctive pieces.

Another good thing about these corner pieces is that they really do help to grow a lake in size (as they are mostly water)!

They don't replace the need for open water pieces, but do assist in expanding the area of your lakes while acting as essential transition pieces as well.

Such useful pieces should have no problem selling, IMHO.

PS,

If it is to be a smaller set, then I should be good for around 3 sets myself.
