Is DF affecting my Mental Health - story of my valentines card 7 Years, 8 Months ago
All

I thought I ask here for some advice in regard to my mental stability - as I know - gamers understand each other and I might like to get advice here first before seeing the doctor.

To illustrate the story I added 3 pictures.

Picture 1 is my Valentines Card that I got today. If you press the love button at the bootom 8 LEDs start to flash. Appology for bad quality on this picture - I used long exposure to ensure all 8 LEDs are visible.

Picture 2 shows what happens after you pushed the button. The LEDs flash up - just a single one a time - around the card an with some added noise finally only a single LED will stay on.

Picture 3 shows the reason why I seek advice. Moments after I got the card a mental picture formed in my mind. Flashes of Kratzerizing the Valentines Card were forming in my mind. A quick check reveals the electronics are tiny. Replacing the wheel of love with 8 HA circular stones would keep the shape. Drilling holes into the stones should allow the LEDs to be seen. Moving the buttom into the middle would allow a character to step on a pressure plate and to trigger the mechanism.

Please, please tell me - are this the thoughts of a madman. Is DF affecting my health. Yes - not only my health. My wife had the same idea when she saw me handling the card even before I told her. And she even allowed me to cut apart her card !!! Is it the DF in our house that is causing this. I have children - I want to raise them properly. Do I have to remove all DF from my house to regain sanity. Is there even a hope to regain sanity at all.

Advice welcome

Thod

PS: On second thoughts I can see the opportunities. What are the possibilities to sue DF for damages as I'm sure Master Maze comes without any health warnings. I could include YanSolo in as well as he surely has to take some responsibility. Or we could broaden this to class action suit any other takers

Hahahaha
Well, on the plus side, DF is lighting the creative fire within you.

On the down side, I'm not sure if the person who sent you the card would appreciate where you mind was when you saw the card :)

I'm all in for the class action. DF is highly addictive and causing me restless nights thinking of how to afford my next 'hit'. It's coming to the time where i'm forced to consider skipping meals to afford my next hit.............

That's brilliant! That's a sign that you truly appreciate the card even beyond the conventional aspects of it, IMHO.

Thod;

I don't think Jeff and Stefan can afford the lawsuit right now; if they do, we'll NEVER get any more DF!
So let's drop the suit (as IF you meant it, right?).
HOWEVER, having seen the third picture, I HEARTILY APPROVE - and if MRS. Thod has already given HER seal of approval, then WHY ARE YOU WASTING TIME talking to US?
Go create, boy; NO WAIT!
First, give Mrs. Thod a big hug and kiss for understanding your affliction.
Second, give her one from all of US who appreciate her understanding, and allowing you to continue creating such wonderful stuff as the Ice and the Gel Cube.
THIRD; GET to WORK!

See ya!

Thanks for convincing me I'm still sane - saves me to go to the doctor ...

Lupus

Seems there go our opportunities ...

Dante

Nicely worded - yes - I do like the card.

Jim

No worries - off course I'm joking in my PS. It would be sad if someone here really could be thinking it would be serious.

But more important

DON'T YOU HAVE ANY FAITH IN ME AT ALL - I'M DISAPPOINTED IN YOU !!!

Work started a few hours ago. I'm home today, herding the kids, doing some work in the house - and yes - it has started. All four floor pieces are glued. Should be fine to cast a mold by now. Then I will finally test out my polyurethane resin. I hope to show some pictures of the finished piece by the weekend.

Okay - in one aspect you are right to remind me - spending too much time here in front of the PC and not working on new pieces.

Thod

PS: Just got a big bucket - 25 Kg CrystaCal AlphaK - this will last me for a while. Nearly ran out and already slowed down in my scratchbuilding.
PPS: Don't worry about the ice - still a lot left from my 5 Kg order

LOL!

Oh man, I laughed so hard after reading this I fell out of my chair... Oh wait, can I sue for that... it hurt!

Seriously though - I'm just kidding, and the fall was worth the laugh.

What's funny here is that the title of the card "Love Button" is what I affectionately call my girl. So again this had me in stitches...

DF Diagnosis -

Dude all I can say is - You obviously have an amazing wife - she knows she has an awesome man - and the creativity shared between you is wonderful!

Remember she shared the thought of creation simultaneously with you... and that's the work of two creative minds in love. And what better use of a Valentine's Card - that will now keep showing that love and creativity in whatever form in becomes.

Happy Valentines Day!

Good luck with the project!

All

Here are the first progress photos. I opened the card very carefully and took out the electronics. I then did a new mold as I didn't fancy casting 8 times to get a whole circle. Actually the mold will be handy. I will generate surplus inner circles - fine as 'stepping stones' to put on water in my sewer system as permanent crossings.
The outer circle will be helpful for a tower floor similar to the tower crioux has done.

But back to my project. The electronics are bigger as expected. On the plus side - I can reach the batteries - no clue how long they are supposed to work.

I did cast the new mold twice - using polyurethane resin. Actually first time I used the resin - was waiting for a job where I would need it. I drilled in some holes and the LEDs fit in nicely. They are alternating red and yellow.

Jobs left - building something around to hide the electronics (just using the dremel won't be enough). Ensuring that the buttom works in the middle. Painting the whole lot. Not sure I will manage tomorrow - it's my birthday and my better halve might have other plans.

Anyhow - at least it shows some progress.

Never mind your mental stability, what i want to know is if they have cards like that here in the US so i can get one and do the same thing but using Sci-Fi parts instead of Fantasy.

Huhm will have to see if there are Valentines day cards on dsicount still at the local hallmark or if they have all gone to easter....

Some more progress. And I survived some moments of panic as well. When I used PVA very generously around the trigger plate suddenly the whole lot stopped working. I took it out again and cleaned it up - and it works again ... Could have been fatal ...

Still need to work out how to cover the trigger and what to place on top. Next pictures will be the finished pieces with some layout around. But this might take a while.
