Yes, I'd seen that dragon before -- not in person, but in pics.

I like it, but I don't think it's his best. I think he went a little overboard with the ivory, I deliberately chose not to copy what he did with the arms, legs and feet.

(which is to say, I deliberately DID choose to copy what he did with the chest and belly -- and chose not to copy what he did with the head, but not deliberately, because frankly, I don't think I could do nearly as good a job, so I left well-enough alone...)

Still, it's a great piece, and it was definitely my inspiration. Otherwise, I'd have gone with a brownish-yellow-orange for the belly, like I normally do for red dragons. But the ivory/bone color is so fantastic, it makes me want to re-paint all my older ones now....

Ghengis--funny story about how I met him. I was hearing all these great things about this guy "Pete" who goes to Paint Night at the LGS here so I thought, "Wow. That would be cool to be able to pick up some tips from somebody who is supposed to be really good." Well, I met him and was impressed with his painting technique.

Then one night we got to talking about a gelatinous cube that I made from clear, flexible resin. I was telling him how I was inspired buy some guys' work on coolminiornot.com. "Yeah, this guy 'ptlee' has this great cube that I downloaded a picture of as inspiration. I did one better than him though--I made mine flexible!" He started cracking up and said, "ptlee, huh? That's me." ROFL!

I had been looking at his work for years before I moved to Madison, WI. Talk about a small world. ;-}~
