Bombat (i think that is who does all of those cool conversions...) kind of inspired me to want to make some of these type things myself.

I wanted to make a passage with "webs", One of them is a corridor filled by my idea of what the web spell looks like, another is a short section of some webs (unfinished) at the end with a few wound up bodies (i have another on the other side you can't see).

Then a few room detial bits.

I really like the idea of having a plop down room detail bit.

So i took some dollhouse furniture and since this is HA (and while you also loose some space in DF it's not as bad with the DF) and there is that "dead space", not enough for a full mini, ie not a complete 1x1 inch square you can't really use it. So i wanted to fill it with something that makes it have some detail. I put in some furniture for like a bathroom, and a bed room, etc. I am working on some other stuff (like an armory, treasure, and store room) but haven't finished them yet.

There are 4 different sets of it, all 1/4" Scale Miniature -A Bathroom Furniture & Accessories Set, a Dining Room/Den Furniture & Accessories, a Kitchen Furniture & Accessories Setand a Bedroom Furniture & Accessories Set.

It is kind of odd, but i don't ever remember seeing who makes these things to give you a manufacturer name, but they are churned out quit a lot, and they are darn cheap, i have seen some websites selling them for $5+, but at my FLGS (which is a 3 story building with one floor dedicated to trains and dollhouses) sells them for i think under $2 maybe $1.50 or 1.99.

They show up on E-bay fairly often, and the other day when i was looking for some other 1/4 scale stuff i ran across a few (i20.ebayimg.com/06/i/08/d3/ab/eb_1_b.JPG), just look for 1/4 scale Dollhouse Furniture and they should come up in the E-stores, buy it now for like $2 a pop.

There are some places (a guy who posts on the HA boards ever so often selling them about $5, but they are far cheaper than that.)

As to the Web, that's always kind of the way i invisioned the web spell, espically in 3.X.

Web creates a many-layered mass of strong, sticky strands. These strands trap those caught in them. The strands are similar to spider webs but far larger and tougher. These masses must be anchored to two or more solid and diametrically opposed points or else the web collapses upon itself and disappears. Creatures caught within a web become entangled among the gluey fibers.
Though in re-reading it, i realised, that is just Half! of the web created, it is a 20 ft Radius, not diamater, "Duh!", oh well have to make another one....

I want to drop a few more in but it is getting hard to add strands...

Nice. Are those strands dental floss, hot glued into place?

No it is Woolly Nylon Thread i grabbed from the craft store supper glued in place, it is kind of cool becuase depending on how much you pull it tight, it can get thin, or if it is loose it can be very thick.

GS,

I just realised that your web design -(if shorter and coloured) could also be used on some SF pieces for either laser (detection/trap) alarm systems or for defensive security or holding systems. Alternately you could glue some straight, coloured wire in a criss-cross fashion to create a removable laser accessory as well.

Just a thought.

BTW, I have just finished a 3rd removable/placable web accessory piece. I'm very happy with those results but they do take a considerable time to finish. I looks as though like your set piece took a considerable amount of time as well.
I hope you won't mind me trying your method to make the hive/honeycomb pieces. I have tried two other/easier? methods - with very poor results both times.

Yeah that would work pretty well for the sic fi, and would be more "3D" than the way i have been running secruity girds (A thin girdded bit of Transparincey between hall section, or other joins of two DF bits).

I didn't trie removalbe becuase with the design i had in mind the only way i could figure out to do it would be to again use transparincies and make i drop in bit (kind of make a U shaped 2x4xer.. height (1.5?) section and then drop the lines in, but then it seemed like it would be flimsy.

So i went with using HA so i could make a perminate bit, and if some one casts web in the hall drop this in (or two once i figured out i had the dimensions wrong...).

We don't have enough of the Fantasy to really "Waste" it by making a piece out of real DF, and this way we have an increase in total pieces with making a new one.

While it did take two days, that is mainly becuase in the middle i ran out of superglue, i think in total it took about maybe 2-3 hours, but since i did it while i would have been otherwise doing mindless stuff (watching TV) it didn't seem long.

As to the combs, i can't imagine what would be eaiser?! if you have gridded cardstock it makes the hex, sure the hard part is glueing the individual cells together but making the cells was a snap.

This is where not having a digicam really, really sucks!

I will try to explain how mine have progressed anyhow..

First I experimented with some rubber mold builder on my DF pieces with good removal results (readers try at your own risk!) Once satified with the results I then covered the MM and cave pieces that I wanted accessories for, with a layer of the mold builder -for protection.

Once dry, I molded some webbing-type of material that I cut from some inexpensive Hallow's Eve hats that I had since spray painted off-white -(for both colouration and workability/firmness).

Once the webbing was in place I sprayed it with a clear, matte acrylic finish and adjusted/reinforced the shape -(this started to get messy at times) as I added additional coats of acrylic and some additional stray, hanging pieces. Once I was content with the structural strength of the piece(s) I added a final light spray of the off-white paint.

I am doing the same with my ice cavern accessories (minus paint) but am still cutting the Utah Ice into appropriate sized/shaped pieces before I can add the clear resin to bind them together into permanent (but removable accessory pieces. Once completed I plan to touch it up with some snow etc.

October/November is always a busy time doing last-minute changes and renos around the house -before winter sets in. That being said, all of my DF projects have been c r a w l i n g - a l o n g since the summer.

I like doing the rare piece conversion as well, but I settled on doing these removable environmental accessories first, being the less-likely of DF development prospects/priorities.
