This is the Hudson & Allen farmstead that I used in a game just over two weeks ago. I started painting it back in California, before we moved to Michigan, and I finally finished it.

The water in the well and in the trough (not seen - it's in the manger area under a removable roof) were given a simple water treatment by painting with blue shading to black, and then drizzling in Future floor finish. It gives a nice, glossy look (I had no brush on gloss sealant on hand).

The farmstead came with a gate, I think, but I've no idea where it went. But, the gate opening was the perfect size for a Master Maze swinging door, so that's what I used.

Tomorrow I'll post pics of the pigs and Wolfie, the Irish Wolfhound that I used in the game. Much fun was had by all.

Great little set-up. And works well if the village has other MBS structures.

The fortified farmstead is designed more for a remote farm, though it could also work in a closer environment where hazards are common.

I only have the one MBS set right now, but plan to get more in the future.

I've used the farmstead twice now; once for Iron Heroes, using Skaven attackers (my old Mordheim warband with Pinky and the Brain), and again using goblins.

Thank goodness no one listened to the half-orc barbarian when he suggested setting the pigs on fire. Tactically unsound, and it would have been a waste of good pork.

What, you don't LIKE barbecue pork? although I agree, it WOULD have been a bad move while they were still running about the farmstead! Too much dried straw hanging about; also, live pigs tend to make a mess when they start burning up. Better to kill and clean them before roasting.

See ya at the cook-out!

Hey, barbecue pork is terrific, but the secret is low and slow. Setting the pigs on fire just won't do.

Now, stampeding the pigs into the goblins would have been a decent idea, though I only had three adult pigs (one sow and two hogs) and nine piglets. I'll post pics of them tomorrow. It's been a busy day today, with falling into my fish pond (darned loose boulder!).

Fortunately, it only resulted in wet shoes and pants - I kept my feet, so I didn't douse the Pocket PC. That would have been a real problem!

This is weird--I could have sworn that I responded to this thread yesterday...

Oh well. Kradlo--I have that same piece. Funny how similiar our painting schemes are too! I'll have to dig out a picture to post for comparison.

Do you have any of their other stuff? I picked up a couple of stand-alone cottages and the larger city block build similar to the farmstead. Haven't painted the biggest piece yet but the cottages are finished.

They make for really nice additions to a gaming table!

I have a Hudson & Allen small keep (unpainted so far), a very nice round single tower. Even unpainted (it has a brown wash, perhaps ink) it looks pretty good, but painted it will look great.

As for the color scheme, the piece pretty much dictated the colors. Straw thatched roofs, exposed timber walls, grey stone, and hard packed dirt - nothing fancy, but it works.

I'll take pictures of Wolfie and the pigs today. I think you'll like them.

Here are the pigs and Wolfie. They worked nicely in the game.

I need to work with my camera a bit more. I'm not getting the colors in the pictures without the flash, and when I use the flash I'm getting too much reflective light, so you don't see the highlighting on the pigs.

Oh, well, you get the idea.

Yeah, Wolfie is cool. I painted him and his brother up some time ago - I think they were Alternative Armies figures. I recently rebased Wolfie to the 25mm round base, but his brother (standing on all fours) is too big for that. I'm torn between putting him on a 40mm round, or a cavalry base (50x25).

Wolfie tore up those goblins in the game. I used Riding Dog stats, and being war trained he had Trip, though the goblins didn't last long enough to worry about it.
