These pieces are very beatiful. You have a creative mind. I had doubted the usefullness of an ice set but your examples have changed my mind. Bravo!

I swear when I looked at those updated pics I got shivers. It just LOOKS like it would be cold to game with!

Still want to drop a couple of those floor pieces into a nice glass of Baileys... or maybe even a white Russian! ;-}~

Thanks for the kind words. Yes - I was contemplating some snow but each of these projects put you back quite a few bucks before you even start. You don't know what works and what doesn't. For the floor for example I bought specifically some blue foam in different thickness. A month later I find this rubbery-foam in a shop close to my parents place. 2 mm thick, flexible, ideal. Just 0.75 Euros (I got in in Germany). Okay - just buy a single sheet of it and now had to get more imported later as I'm here 600 km away.
In the meanwhile the blue foam (and a few other bits) gather dust - until used eventually.

Yes - now I think I should just have added some snow powder in an earlier order ... It is the shipping costs and the amount you need to take in a lot of cases which prevent you buying everything you fancy (but loads you will never actually use).

I have to admit I saw a tower of ice as a second place at the Hirst Arts competition. This gave me the idea to try it for some HA stuff. I therefore need to give credit to whoever did that tower as he inspired me for this layout.

Thod -

INCREDIBLE! That REALLY looked like ice!
I hope your girls there in the fight remembered to put their snuggies on before armoring up, or they're gonna be real COLD tonight. Come to think of it, the one with the axe better hope the blade didn't get too brittle when she slams that Ice Gorilla; she could snap that blade right off the head!

Excellent job, sir. I'd take my hat off to you, but after seeing those pics, it's frozen to my head!

See ya!

Those ice wall sections could work great for Crocodile Games new Wargods of Hyperborea. I've seen some of the minis, and they are very nice indeed.

You can check them out here: www.crocodilegames.com/

I love their Wargods of Aegyptus minis, particularly the Basti and the Sebeki. I painted up their skull headed sphinx resin terrain piece (now sadly out of production).

Darn, these do look good, consider the Idea Stolen Thod, I have the same type of Resin, and those molds... So here comes other Ice Sculpters... To bad my current game is in the Tropics...

And You Know, with the Caverns set comming from HA soon, i wonder that that would look like in this clear resin...

Great miniatures. Would love them and I agree - perfect for the ice. Too sad I have already too many unpainted ones here at home. Somehow making terrain is taking more of my time at the moment as painting. Might reverse someday again. But at the moment there are still a lot of ideas left what I would like to do.

Maxwell

There is no money to be made for me in making DF terrain on order. It's the time involvement that kills you. And for the resin there is material cost as well. Due to bad weather (I did try to leave molds outside due to smell) and long cure time I'm down to 1 cast every 2 days. I need 5 casts for a room. And while casting is pretty simple and 'quick' I'm still struggeling to clean up. Demold and cleaning takes me 5 times as long as casting ...
I'm contemplating to use Polyurethane instead - but the best offer so far is £35 for 2 kg. If we add shipping then we talk some $80 for 2 kg of raw material. Havind said all that - I currently should have enough blocks for half a room as I currently work on a bridge made from ice. This 'surplus' blocks once I have a room complete will go on E-Bay with some other smaller bits.
I'm contemplating to make some sewer pieces next. I have all the ideas. Silicone rubber for my own mold is already here. But I need some colours for staining the sewage as clear water would look bad. Damn - this gets expensive as I need a few colours - and take some yellow and red as well for some future fire / lava ...
Again - sales will be soley to recoup some of my raw materials. But with the sewer system I hope to be able to make a few as I will make some dedicated molds. Well - this is if it works ...

Stealing my ideas ... You know - there is something like the GNU licence on my ideas. Usage for own production only allowed if you promise to post the results here on the board. Maybe we can even exchange some tips directly by e-mail. I still struggle with a decent non-sticky cast. I might just have managed the non-sticky one but I got some big air bubbles on the bottom of some of my pieces. Well - would discard them if they were plaster. At least with the resin/ice you notice less the imperfections and it even looks a little bit like 'molten'. Still - not really happy yet with the process.

Thod

PS: will find out about the non-stickyness when I demold. But the test piece looked fine.
