Hi all,

Has anyone used resin or glue or whatever to make spell effects

I was thinking maybe fishing line with glue on it at certain places between minis to be magic missles

Kinda like that red dragon that wizards made but for all kinds of effects.

Ideas and pics if you have any

Thanks

I sculpted a Flaming Sphere miniature which I often use in my D&D games. It's such a handy spell.

www.magnificentegos.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=8

Magnificent Egos makes a set of spell-effect miniatures that look pretty nice.

That's a cheap miniature of a fireball in flight, by Hackmaster. It shouldn't be too difficult to replace the black plastic base and post with a clear post (go to your local hobby shop).

That's the WarGods Aegyptus line, Asar Witch with Spectral Hand.

-----------------------------

I don't know if this is the effect you are looking for, but for magic missiles you could try narrow electrical wire to represent the "contrails".

Bend one end of the wire into a curl or knot, and dip it in ordinary Elmer's glue. Repeat until you have a nice "bulb" on that end.

Paint the bulb to match the wire. If you are feeling ambitious, paint the bulb one color, then blend colors along the length of the wire (to show that the energy is concentrated in the missile, not the trail).

Now, take a clear plastic post (hobby shops usually have them near the piano wire and dowels) and cut a notch in the tip with a fine hacksaw blade or Xacto accessory (use a vice!). Alternatively, use a VERY fine dremel bit to drill a hole through the post. Put the wire in the notch/hole, and fix it in place with a drop of clear glue.

Now you have a magic missile in flight. Repeat the process and use multiple posts on a single base to represent a higher-level casting of the spell aimed at a single target.

Sorry, no picture available, as this is entirely in my head.

I made some spell effects out of Transperencies... (oh crap can't spell today).

I do abit of card stock modeling so i made a transparnt Cubed form of say a fireball blast etc. Like Steel Squire does, but in 3D, not sure if i liked it or not and i have always debated, should it be more 3D, as in doens't the balst go Up to that height as well if it can? or is a burst just 10 ft high.

A fireball is a 20-foot radius spread, spreading in all directions (including up and down), barring obstructions to the contrary. Being a spread, it goes around corners, to the limits of the distance from the center.

I've seen smaller diameter circles used for fireball effects done at various heights. If you only want to toast a 10' radius group (or a 10' square for grid users), just put the fireball center 20' off the ground.

The steel Sqwire templates are rather interesting for grid use.

Also, RPGA is doing some very nice transparencies for area effect templates. I have their fireball template (a 20' radius circle), the green dragon breath (a 30' cone), and the white dragon breath (also a 30' cone), plus one smaller template that is a 10' diameter circle - I'm not sure what spell effect it is meant to represent, but it could function for any number of spells or effects.

They use to be in a bunch of the Retail kits that came with the D&D minis sets.

www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=rpga/hq/campaignseasons

Thats where i picked up the Fireball, cone, and darnkess ones myself, the kits change up the "coloration" of the thing (green is Acid, white was winter etc).

Find a Game store in your area that runs games and try to get one... some how.
